My 7 year old son started 5mg per day of Ritalin, yesterday. Commented that he wasn't having "bad thoughts", but seemed more hyper. Today in school, his teacher noted increased noise making, fidgeting, and seemed to have a harder time with self control than ususal. It also seemed that it got worse as the day wore on. Could this be the medicine, or just not enough medicine? My son felt that it helped him pay attention. And he felt good today. The doctor has given me permission to increase his dose in increments up to 10mg per day.

I had an increase in energy and a little mania the first few days or a week on Concerta. I am willing to live with a little hyperness to get the focus, plus, it will lessen in the next few weeks as his body adjusts. Just my experience, but hope that helps you some
