i had some strange visual perceptual side effects, mostly while driving. I discountinued the drug at the prescribing physicians suggestion.
I don't think it "permanently hurt me" in any way.
I'd suggest you not be concerned with the drugs they suggest. just watch and see what happens. if it helps great.
if it doesn't, wait and see.
if there are biazzarre side effects you and she can survive, report them immediately to your doctor and say you're ewilling to see if they go away.
Other wise, if things seem to be going badly, discontinue the drug according to instrctions.
In the end trust yourself. For your Daughter, she needs to be going in with the same attitude and control. It is her mind and her boady consuming the pil an dher long-term rather than short term health you are after.
I hope that helps.

Thanks so much I am trying to deal with this and it is certainly hard! I trust my judgement but my gut tells me one thing and my heart another! This is by far the most excruciating experience to go through.........there is no love like the love for your child! That is what makes this a bad experience for me, though I only want whats best for her!

My son started gaining weight on risperdal. He also takes Seroquel. We've since taken him off risperdal and increased the seroquel. The risperdal was very effective at calming him down when he would start having rages. Based on a second opinion we just started him on 25mg of Strattera today. I hope it works! Stimulants were awful. Take a look at the child and adolescent bipolar forum. Those people have a lot of experience with meds. I think its www.bpkids.org

Usand3gals: How old is she? That fact will influence the dosage, etc. If she is of "pediatric" age, she needs to be working with a doctor who has some knowledge of kids....
I've actually been on all three of those meds at different times in my life....as an adult....All worked in varying degrees...but side effects tended to be intense.....The depakoate gave me bad hair loss like no other medication....unfortunately....but realize that everyone reacts to meds differently....:)

These drugs can be very helpful, moderately helpful, or not very helpful.
I think you really need to just watch with an open mind and keep track of things.
As an adult, depakote didn't do what I was looking for, so far as I could tell, but everyone really is different.
Good luck.
