Hey,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question butI will give it a try!

My 18 year old daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD-Combined Type and takes Adderall XR. However, we went to get her eyes checked and the Optometrist mentioned that she had an eye focusing problem.

I have been reading about this on the internet and it says that it has many of the same symptoms as ADD. However, a child with Convergence Insuffiency would not show the same impulsitivity symptoms as a child with ADHD right? Impulsive behavior is the main reason we sought treatment for ADHD in the first place.

Any information would be helpful!

Thank You!

The idea that there is any link between CI and ADHD is purely speculative and have not seen anything to suggest CI has anything to do with impulsivity.

Focusing problems are quite common and, even if ADHDers are more likely to have them, it's much more likely to be due to motor deficits than to anything like impulse control.

Take care!

vision problems are known to cause ADD-like symptoms in children.
Talk to your doctor and follow up on it.

I was treated for convergenc insuffiency when I was in middle school. It's severity can be greatly decrease through treatment such as eye exercises. Though I never heard it being blamed for ADD like symptoms. It use to make me very tired when reading, with the eye muscles becoming tired. And sometimes I use to see double sometimes with little things, like the words on the page or the letters/words that I was writing because the eyes can cross for a few seconds (again when my eyes became tired). However, it takes several weeks to show signficant improvement.
