I find that I dont read emails as I should outlook 2003 is a mess.I know this is old, but wanted to echo what you said. It's way too damn busy for me! With ADD it gets way too overwhelming very quickly, and I get lost in everything. I liked 2000 myself too, and now you've gotten me to think about switching back.

Tried too, I'm currently uninstalling outlook 2003 and going back to 2000, hope no one here at work cares. It can be rather cluttered. Here's what I have done to help.

Turn off autopreview. This removes the panel at the bottom (default) that displays the contents of a note. This eliminates looking at every note.

Turn on and update your junk mail controls. EMPTY your junk mail folder regulary.

Act on mail and don't let it build up. There are some nifty tricks to dealing with mail on a timely basis.

Learn how to use filters. You can set Outlook up to recognize an email by sender, subject, orginating domain etc. and send it right to a folder. Some mail you need to receive, but not necessarily read right away.

I had no luck with the color coding of e-mails. You can assign a color to e-mail that is addressed to you, or on which you are :cc'd etc. I might try this again someday.

I'm a huge fan of folders. I create major category folders and then subfolders under that. I never go more than 2 deep in folders though.

Did you no you can drag and drop any e-mail into the calendar? I've found this to be helpful when receive information with a due date that is not already a calendar entry or a task. (I believe you can also do this with tasks.)

A great resource for tools and techniques is www.lifehacker.com. Check out this chapter from their upcoming book

Lifehacker Book Preview, Chapter 6: Control Your Email (http://lifehacker.com/software/lifehacker-the-book/lifehacker-book-preview-chapter-6-control-your-email-221362.php)

Another place to search on Outlook and e-mail is 43folders.com (http://www.43folders.com/) They are proponents of a process called "Getting things done" or GTD. Check out all the GTD information and info on Outlook.

Let us know what is working (or not) for you.

...Definitely a memory hog. Especially when combined with Franklin for Outlook.

Just wanted to say that Outlook 2003 is a whole lot more useful for me now that I'm on meds.... I used to have to keep EVERYTHING in view for vear I would forget it, and then I'd have so many tasks/ projects etc. that I'd get overwhelmed even looking at it much less trying to prioritize it. It was better than nothing, but now with meds I find the program has suddenly become much more useful :) and streamlined!
