I am taking my 14 year old daugter with ADD inattentive off of Strattera today. She has tried Adderall XR (15mg), the side effects were too harsh pychologically - depressed, bad thoughts, irritable etc. along with not eating. She strated Strattera 5 weeks ago (slowly moving up to 60mg and taking in two doses daily). No change in her focusing and she has been nauseous, had stomach aches and is sleepy all of the time which is so much worse than her regular self off of meds.
I read about the natural way to go - no side effects and a 70% chance that something like Attend will work. I ordered them today. I am tired of using severe meds on my daughter's brain - especially with two unsuccessful tries, and bad side effects. I am not sure if ordering Attend was/is the right thing to do , but at this time I see no alternatives out there.
Any suggestions? Any advice?

There are no natural treatments, remedies or nurtritional/dietary interventions found to work for the clinical treatent of ADHD;including ATTEND,FOCUS FACTOR and anything else making those promises.

She doesn't have ADHD - but ADD inattentive type. She mostly has issues with focus and recalling information. I have read threads that say that Attend helps with this. Any other people know anyone who this has helped?

catrina,
I sincerely hope she gets better and that you find something that works w/o side effects.
When I was diagnosed in 1972, it was called MBD (Minimal Brain Damage).
Today, everything is called ADHD.
The old "ADD" is now called ADHD Predominantly Inattentive type.
Either way, the meds are the same for all types.
I'm a Licensed (Clinical/Child) Psychologist in Minnesota, with what has gradually become a specialty practice for ADHD kids between 6 -19 yrs old.
I've spent the last 18 + yrs studying, reading, going to workshops and presenting on ADHD myself.
What I posted above is NOT my personal opinion.
I'm merely qouting the state of the research today; which I keep up with on a daily basis.
Those statements are accurate and true.
NONE of those work.
I do wish you and your child much luck :)

McTavish,
I will call the therapist tomorrow to see if we can go to plan C. (since A and B didn't work) In your years as a therapist, how long before one usually finds the right meds for this? Is it unusual to go to a plan C?
My daughter and I were thinking that maybe a stimulant with an antidepressent would work best since she focused better on Aderall, but got depressed. Your thoughts.

What have been Plan A and B? What did you try so far?

I can't respond to direct questions on the internet, but I can say that everyone is different in the way they react to medication.
What works for one may not for another.
While this is strictly anecdotal, what I've seen over the years seems to support the bigger the kid, the older the kid, the fewer side effects.
However, that is far from scientific and carries no real significance.
I can say though that medication is always a "trial & error " process.
I wish I could tell you that those things actually worked for treating ADHD,however, they are total rip offs.
Once again, good luck :)

P.S.
I had an allergic reaction to Straterra that landed me in the ER for 4-5 hours one evening.

Thanks so much! I will update you after I speak to the therapist.
FYI plan A was Aderall XR and Plan B was Strattera
