View Full Version : ADD Sports Pros Monday On CBS Evening News
chameleon 03-19-06, 09:28 PM Monday (tomorrow) on the CBS Evening News they're doing an interview with two pro athletes (a baseball & a basketball player) that have ADD and talk about how it effects their game play, and how they've come as far as they have in spite of the disability.
chloe516 03-19-06, 09:30 PM Thanks for the heads up. I will set my DVR for it now! I am so interested to hear everyone's experiences right now. I am in the process of gathering information! ;)
chameleon 03-19-06, 09:54 PM No problem :)
chameleon 03-20-06, 06:50 PM Just a reminder - it's tonight. :)
chloe516 03-20-06, 07:00 PM It was just on, I forgot to watch it until I saw this thread, but that's what DVR is for!;)
chameleon 03-20-06, 07:11 PM Great Chloe, I'll probably forget all about it at 5:59 and miss the whole thing! If that happens, I can ask you if it was any good :)
chloe516 03-20-06, 07:13 PM I forgot you are in a different time zone, I'll put it on right now and let you know if it is worth watching!;) I can even fast forward with DVR so it won't be long!
chloe516 03-20-06, 07:35 PM It is interesting, it is very short and I can summarize it if anyone wants me to. It just talks about how ADHD affects athletes and how ADHD is more prevalent among athletes (4-5% among general child population 8-10% among athletes). They think it is because they struggle in school because of focus difficulties and excel in sports. But their difficulty focusing catches up with them as they get better and go to college or pro levels. They then notice it affecting their playing ability.
Just realized I ended up summarizing! Oh, well, it was interesting, but not a big deal if you don't see it.
chameleon 03-20-06, 07:38 PM Thank you Chloe! I'm glad you summerized. I want to see the part I saw in the preview where the ball player was describing how it was difficult to stay focused on the game when he keeps getting distracted.
chloe516 03-20-06, 07:40 PM 2 ball players, one basketball and one baseball. Must clarify!!
chameleon 03-20-06, 07:41 PM Umm...I think it was the base ball player. Yeah it was 'cause I remember he was standing outside during the interview :D
chloe516 03-20-06, 07:43 PM Sure it wasn't football, soccer, cricket... lots of sports played outside;)
He said that it was difficult to filter out the ump, crowds, and the signs around the ballpark. He also said that he had to adjust his hat every five seconds because it was too distracting.
chameleon 03-20-06, 07:46 PM Oh man, poor guy! What about the basketball player? What did he say?
chloe516 03-20-06, 07:52 PM he used to be on meds but went off of them because he didn't like it (side effects). He relies on visualizing instead of verbal reminders and didn't want to take pills for the rest of his life. They also mentioned another baseball player who retired because he couldn't focus. Didn't say who...
chameleon 03-20-06, 07:57 PM Oh how sad for the retiree after getting so far :(
chloe516 03-20-06, 08:02 PM I know, is so sad. I wonder if he knew before he retired, or if meds would have worked...
