Just to let you guys know i'm new to this forum and i'm pretty happy that i'm here. For me ADD has been really hard because i'm still trying to learn about it with everything as an adult. Right now i still don't have my drivers license and i'm thinking that it might have something to do with my ADD. I just feel like it's impossible to even get it, but i definitely do want it though. I can't even pick up the drivers book and really read it and try to study it, and with driving it can be pretty hard to. I had just wanted to know if any of you have or had this same problem that i'm having right now. I really want to hear some feedback and try to know and learn as much as i can concerning ADD and the effects it really can have on you as an adult. I also don't know the best medications to take for ADD, i'm taking Adderal right now, but i honestly don't think its really helping me that much. I hope i can get some feedback from anyone who has some of the same problems that i have.

If you don't feel you can study or read the book, do you have any friends or family members who would help you learn the rules of the road?

I still have a hard time driving. I have a hard time focusing on the road, with judging distance, and with direction. I am much better than when I first started, but is always hard.

Different medications work for different people, I just started medication a month ago and I am on Concerta, I think it will be okay for me when we get the dosage straightened out, but I'm not sure yet. I have heard that it can take a while.

I learned a lot from reading books about ADHD, I read books for women, I looked in your profile (couldn't tell from your post if you are male or female) Sari Solden's book Women with Attention Deficit Disorder talks a lot about the symptoms of ADHD-I and would do well for men too if you have inattentive type. I haven't read it, but I have heard good things about Driven to Distraciton.

When I first found these forums, I spent three days straight on here. There is so much information! If you really want information about symptoms for adults, the adult and general add sections can be helpful. Also the relationships section if you are looking for information about social skills.

Good luck finding what you need, keep posting your specific questions, I have learned a lot that way and have a lot of fun too! :D

I can relate.
Driving is very difficult for me because my mind doesn't know how to priorities my surroundings, so EVERYTHING is seen as critical for safe driving - the signs, the stop lights, the other vehicles, the pedestrians, the grass, that flower over there, the buildings, the poles, the hydrants, the pretzel vendor, the billboard......
So I'm overwhelmed trying to digest my surroundings at speeds over 2 miles an hour and pick out which ones matter.
Lexapro helped calm my panic to the point that I could relax and do better driving. I think a state of anxiety contributes greatly to the problem.

Also...every single time I have a conversation with somebody while I'm driving, I always ALWAYS miss my turn off and go the wrong way.

Do you ever day dream or let your mind wander while you drive? I've driven past my destination quite a few times lately because I'm not paying attention. :( I'm alert enough where I notice all the other cars so I can drive defensively, just not enough to remember where I am going.

neuroangelI wouldn't say I let it wander, it just does! ;) I miss my exit or turn a lot because of zoning out. It's good you notice all the other cars, I sometimes miss those too! :faint: :( :o

Gee...I am glad I am not driving in the same country as you two :-) LOL

I have trouble with directions..just give them to me one by one, don't say "left at the red house, right at the bus stop, go 3 k's and turn right again"! no chance chuckie...just tell me about 200 metres before each turning and I am fine!

I believe everyone who drives, even those without ADD will arrive at their destination without realizing or remembering how they got there...I saw it on TV and is is very common :-) (and normal)
