Like some other Add'ers I know of, I'm not fond of using the telephone. I don't even have a cell phone. The thought gives me chills. And when I drive I go into the hyperfocus zone. I'm Speed Racer (minus the monkey). So recently I'm driving, hyperfocsing, trying to find an address and my friend is gettng directions over her cell phone when she gets frustrated and hands the phone to me. I do a combination freeze, freak. I find that I can neither drive with the phone in my hand nor talk on the phone while driving. I shut down and got highly agitato. Is this add? or is this something else. Some other disorder or quirk. Does this mean I'm not good at multi-tasking? Based on other situations I would tend to agree. I'm kinda confused and curious. As Clint Eastwood/Josey Wales said,"A man's got to know his limitations".

I'm the same way. My husband says he's gonna have it cut off because I just wont answer. LOL :p

I think this is probably some other quirk.;)

I think its simply a matter of learning, multitasking isnt a huge problem for me but only if the things I'm doing aren't too visually involved and I've got plenty of experience doing them. I know that if someone were to give me instructions to go somewhere over the phone I'd have to pull the car to the side of the road in order to visualize (memorize) where I'm going. I think it has more to do with that than with multitasking in general, e.g. walking and chewing gum and holding a conversation.

I can only use a cell phone with a headset.
Otherwise talk to the voicemail.

I guess I just can't figure out whether its a case of "Don't bother me, I'm hyperfocusing" or a mulit-tasking deficit. I actually always thought that I wasn't too bad at multi-tasking, but I'm not so sure now. I just know that if someone hands me a phone while I'm driving, my truck becomes an unguided missile. I think it would be the same way on a headset. Maybe the question really should be is can you hyperfocus on two things at once. Most likely not, at least me.

I don't mind using a regular phone, but I rarely use my cell.

I was known for checking my cell voice mail maybe once or twice a week so it wasn't uncommon for me to have a voice mail that'd been in the system for awhile. :D

I can also drive and talk at the same time with little problem, but generally have a hard time mulitasking in other things.
