I just wanted to share a little info. on Focalin XR. First, I have seen several posts saying that Medicaid does not cover it. I live in Texas, and for the record I had no problem getting it filled for my son. My son is 7 and was just recently dx'd as ADHD combined. This is all new to me, so I thought I'd share. The first day went okay, no complaints about any side effects on his behalf. However, he went from 9 am to 7:30 pm without eating, strange for my son cause he is always hungry.. no problem though. Big improvement in his attitude, and energy level right off the bat. He wasn't bouncing off the walls and arguing with me over petty things, even managed to get yes mam's from him. PTL. He did however have problems going to sleep, but that was solved with a suggestion from another post about getting him a night light to read by, 15 minutes and he was asleep. Second day went well, too. Still no complaints from him, only compliments from several people at church on how well he was behaving. Even the little girls he usually chases around said he was being really nice and not chasing them. PTL. There were a few times when I told him no that before could have turned into a huge fight, but he accepted the answer and didn't fight me. Today was the real test, school. Behavior was better, his teacher said. Wasn't fidgeting in seat, and managed to keep his hands to himself (big improvement). I noticed however that around 6pm his old self started to come through, and there was a change in his energy level. Couldn't sit still at dinner, and wouldn't quit picking on his sister. All in all, the medicine seems to be working-- and PTL I made it through a work day without a call from his teacher or principal. :)
