View Full Version : What's your current hyperfocus?

Thought this would be a good topic to post.

I'll go first ...

Just got a Dell Axim Pocket PC to replace my (holding my head in shame :D ) Palm IIIx.

There are so many cool things available. I am constantly looking for applications and tools. Things that I will probably never use. Things that will only take up space in memory and the flash cards.

Maybe I need to get another battery, how about a car charger, or maybe one of those Bluetooth wireless mini-keyboards. Gotta go ebay ... :D

Hi There

This is my new thing
I am getting a Tablet PC shortly and so I have become totally hyperfocused on that. I look at the website and read and re-read all the specs and features, etc. By the time this thing comes in the mail I intend to be an expert, hehe. I have become convinced this is going to organize my totally whacky life!!
I can dream, can't I?
So, what can your Pocket PC do, anyway?

Hey Fastalkingmom

You say your weight, do you feel it is too high or too low? If you dont mind me asking.
I only ask because I have begun to attemt to lose 10 lbs, successful so far in losing 5. We shall see. I read someplace that add women have a harder time losing weight because we tend to need instant gratification to stay motivated and as we all know weight loss takes a while to see noticable results so we end up falling off the diet wagon early.

-ACongratulations on getting a tablet PC and deciding to organize your life. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful.

The Axim Pocket PC is like a Palm, but it runs a Mobile (skinny) version of the Microsoft OS. It has a Calendar, Task Pad, Contact List, Note Pad, E-mail access. It can sync with my Outlook.

It also has a Web Browser, Instant Messaging, MP3 Player, Picture Viewer, Calculator, Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Money, PDF Viewer.

It has WiFi built-in and can work in WiFi hotspots. There are a lot of free programs available. I downloaded a Mini Telnet client, Pocket guitar tuner, astronomy software. There are also a lot of games available.

I installed the Skype application, to see if I can make a phone call over the Internet. Haven't tried it yet. All this in the size of a Palm device.

I'm such a geek! :D

I've lost a bunch and still need to lose about 35 (due to an illness). I tried a diet program and because of the focus I had to have on food (counted points and all that) I ate more than what was allowed and couldn't seem to stop myself. I went off the program and have lost 5 or 6 pounds on my own.

Hyperfocusing on my weight is kinda good right now :eyebrow: Maybe it's the hyperfocusing on what I look like is more the problem :o

Three words, World of Warcraft (WoW). Dear god I've been stuck to this game since release on Nov. 24 2k4. Nice thing is its saved me money, before that I use to buy a game every month, now I just play WoW. Sad thing is that it is the biggest time sink you will find.

When I'm at work though I get focussed on my new iPod video, you can download tons of videos to it from Google and other sites that format for the iPod.:D

EDIT: Also at work I tend to lurk every forum I can possibly imagine.

Wwo thats a lot of functionalitly for a small device. Good for you, i love getting new gadgets and stuff. Its so fun. Last week I got a new cell phone, Motorola Razr and at first it took getting used to now Iam liking it. I take pics of everything I see, and it has the vcast so I can (if I want) watch videos check email get news, etc. I think it is great because if I am someplace and my son gets antsy (which is always, hehe) I can give him the phone to watch a SpongeBob video or something, buy myself a few moments!

Oh, me too, Tater. It's Friday afternoon, and instead of finishing a project (that was due yesterday) and heading into my weekend worry-free, I'm putzing around, re-organizing my office to make it more "functional" and surfing. Hmmm, seems obvious I missed my meds today.

Also hyperfocusing on my newest toy - I do so love my gadgets - a 20gb iRiver mp3 player. I can NOT seem to keep my hands off it - I'm constantly scrolling through the music lists, watching a slide show of the only 10 pictures I've synced so far, reading about features, admiring it's pretty red case, etc.

My hyperfocus isn't quite as high tech as some of yous, but mine would be, being on the computor all the time. I have two other forums that I go to, and occassionally send e-mails. And since my diagnoses of ADD, I tend to come here alot. Sometimes I will know I have other things to do, and it is real difficult for me to tear myself away from here and go do other things. :)

Looking to upgrade our computer. I know little about all the new technology and should just go with recommendations. But at home I'm on the net reading incessantly. It's driving my wife nuts. She just wants me to make a decision and get it over with. But I read read read and ask question after question after question. It's driving me nuts too.

While I know I've hyperfocused on things all the time (golf is my standard hyperfocus) this is the first time I've been able to see it like looking in a mirror. I must seem like a freak to those around me:) But I can't get this out of my mind.

This is the first thing since my diagnosis late last year that I've hyperfocused on that wasn't golf related. Before knowing what hyperfocus was I'd just have thought I was being thorough. But I can see today, that what I've been doing for the last week is just beyond it.

A-

I should have said that I hyperfocus on my weight. Even though I always watch what I eat, that doesn't mean I always lose weight! That said, it has helped me in the long run as far as maintaining a healthiness. Keep a journal! that has helped in the past.

Nova

Actually, Dorm, Quantum Physics and/or Quantum Consciousness, has been a hyperfocus of mine for many years now, so it's not as recent as I made it sound.

If you do an internet search on any of the subjects I mentioned, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)- you can find information on them on many websites.

I've been hyper-focusing on MBTI lately as well. Never got into the Enneagram much since the three or four times I've taken the test I've always gotten the same number, but I don't think it really fits me.

Oh, and I've also been focusing on reading everything I can find on teaching English in South Korea, which is what I want to be doing in a few months, and going to the gym now that I've finally gotten myself into the habit!

Sadly, I am hyperfocuseing on my anxiety right now, but it feels good to confess that. Its clearly impossible for me to demonstrate structure and organization to my ADD child (on meds, in treatment) while I remain on the outside drifting (not on meds, not in treatment).

I am trying to break that cycle, by telling myself this is gonna change in a few more days, just a few more days...then we can work together instead of against each other.

In the past it has been weight training, running, skydiving, playing guitar ( that actually went way too far as I did nothing else for about 2-3 yrs), taking online psych/personality tests, general internet procrastination, physical therapy ( thats how i got through my masters degree, i found something I could hyperfocus on).

What i would like to be able to hyperfocus on right now would be financial planning and fitness/dieting.

Work/Computers in general.
Spent the entire weekend [sans about 2 hours of mowing] inside in front of the computer.
This weekend:
Studying for the 229 [SQL stuff].

Working with my census database. I have about 6 GB of census data - geek hobby? If you want to know what is the average spent on your block on hair pieces, I could tell you [along with just about anything else].

Tweaking an application that I wrote for a lady at work who happens to be the CEO's secretary. I went way overboard as usual, but she loved it. As I was leaving, the CEO stopped me and thanked me for doing that. Gave me a chance to tell him about some other ideas including using my geek hobby for work. He was VERY interested. I work for a company that handles printing [mostly] and call centers [phasing out?] that deals with some rather large business/religious entities. I'm one of the data geeks. Who knows, maybe one of my hyperfocus projects can actually work for me!

Working on several other geek ideas, mostly for work. Totally sucked in to the point I would wake up at 4:30 am just to work on yet another idea.

My current is this 30 year headache I just bought! My house! Really my main hyperfocus is on the finer non-emerg details. I moved in exactly 1 month ago yesterday. I still have some boxes laying around. I have empty dressers, but plenty of full bags & baskets of clothes....but I am sitting painting these really cool mirrors I bought at the craft store (that I have now grounded my self from for the next 6 months!

Oh i have a sink full of dishes and my kids have been eating the reserve Tv dinners...reserved for just such an occasion!
HI my name is Hope I have ADD.can you tell huh can ya can ya...just come watch my clothes and dishes pile up while I paint mirrors, hang and re-hang pitures, and arrange and re-arrange nicknacks all the day long....

Why can't I just get the un-fun stuff done, so I have all the time in the world for the fun stuff...huh huh....when you can answer that let me know...and I willl explain it to all my boys who are either helping me paint....or playing video games while they should be putting up thier clothes....organizing their rooms..aargh where do they get that from...oh yea....tehe he....me :eyebrow:

Forums (three I post on WAY too much), school (which I am grateful that I can do), and my weight (getting down to where I was and still losing). I think a little bit of addiction can be a good thing. I weigh every day sometimes more than once but if I don't obsess some then I gain again. Also, with school I procrastinate but once I start on a paper, I cannot quit until I finish even if it is hours without eating barely going to bathroom etc. This is a good thing. Of course, I finally did get on meds. Think that is helping me lose the weight again too. I have no appetite. I am rambling which reminds me I need to take my ritalin :D
