View Full Version : Medication turning me into workaholic?

Since I started Adderall five months ago, I've made some great progress in many areas and really like how it helps me focus. In the past, I was a clock watcher with keys in hand five minutes before time to leave, in addition to taking two hours lunches and goofing off all day.

Now I find I'm often the first one in the office and I'm ALWAYS the last to leave. Most days I work about 8am to 7pm. Sometimes later and, at least three nights a week, I bring work home with me.

Anyone else experienced this?

I started taking Concerta a month and a half ago and I find that I am actually not at work for as long as I was before. This is because a simple task would take forever for me to complete. I would get disctracted and be working on 10 different things at one time (never finishing anything except stuff that absolutely had to be done). I am more productive now and at work less just because meds have helped me focus more and be more efficient. :D

I too have had a huge change in work ethic. I stay extra hours as well and am much more productive. I'm sure my coworkers wonder whats gotten into me! Coping has been lifelong and I was able to "manage", but now my contributions to meetings and work in general are off the charts. Has anyone been able to sustain this for a long time? I have been taking meds now only three weeks (dexedrine 5mg tablets).

I had this happen to me when I went back on Adderrall XR, but the thing is I think it was mainly due to the fact that I was enjoying the fact that I could be successful and complete my job and tasks on time, efficiently, and very effectively.

Right now, I am job searching because my direct supervisior isn't someone I get along with, and I'm the first one out the door.

As with anyone, I think its a combination of liking what you do and being able to feel successful.. At least this is my experience...

Anyone else experienced this?I know what you're talking about. I experienced a similiar "work drive" when I was on Adderall. The way I see it is, that work drive is there to start with, the ADHD medications just let you apply your energy to fufill that work drive.
When I was on Adderall my grades were nigh straight A's, I did homework up until the moment I felt my medication slipping off for the night. When I didn't have homework to do, I spent the time cleaning and organizing, and if there was none of that to do I spent the time with my fiance. (note that I spent time with her no matter what)
