View Full Version : On the spot poems

04-09-06, 06:44 AM
the person above states a word and the next person has to make a small poem that has that word in or is about that word.

starting word is DEPTH

08-31-06, 08:15 AM
I make a trip each day,
to see if i can find my way.
my fear it knows no bound,
my voice it has no sound,
My dreams, will I kill?
Or keep them burried to a depth so still.

Dumb I know but hey what can i do in 30 seconds.
next word: Dreams

08-31-06, 08:28 AM
The children of idle brains,
Ever lasting splendor,
In creative glory,
In focus with all that surrounds,
One's mental escape,
A stowaway in one's own train,
Of thought,
Of Dreams.

Inspired Yet? (hehe, kidding...I know it's not too great)

By the way, I like the Depth one. Nice Luna!

Next Word: Repentance

08-31-06, 10:50 AM
What's the best way
To put joy in your day?
To find absolution
There's only one solution

Next word: Sophistry

This is fun! I don't know who came up with the idea but you've got a winner here that could go on for a while!

09-03-06, 07:35 PM
Sophistry - the art of splitting words
Like splitting a log of wood
Autumn's soon here
I'll be sitting by the fire
Thoughts coming and going
In a split second

Next word is "Spider"

09-03-06, 08:30 PM
Eight legs,

I have a phobia
of hairy things

Next word

09-03-06, 09:08 PM
I'm the random

Oh, please someone
pour me a cup of tea!

The next word: yonder

09-04-06, 12:13 AM
Up yonder by the hitchin post,
Molly fell in love with a boy who boast(sp?),

'I can throw more hay than any man today'
Off to the barn without delay

Molly sat in the hay loft high,
While the men threw hay to the rafters, sigh

When the last man standing heaved a great bale
The boy who boast let out a wale

No more Molly would hike yonder to him
She was broken, by his back, and a boastful whim.

Next word secluded

09-07-06, 01:56 AM
I'm deluded on how to make

a poem

that talks about secluded

places or hermits

I don't know

but secluded places

are where they'll go

as you read this rhyme of mine - locomotion.

sorry have not been to this thread in a bit. heres the poem;)

The magic chiffarobe
we all need that magic chiffarobe,
to keep our dreams inside
A special place where we can go,
for treasures that we hide.
Like snapshots from the past
our memories we put away,
so we can pull them out again,
some dark and rainy day.
the good times and the smiles we keep,
the hurt we throw and burn,
so happiness is the only thing that's left for us,
the moment we return.

09-16-06, 09:14 PM
Floating down a sea of dreams
Life's not always what it means

10-07-06, 10:41 PM
Mr. Goldsmith had an egg roll

A piece of pig popped out and cried,

He thought it was his imagination

So he tucked his napkin up under his chin,
and ate it.

Next word:

10-08-06, 04:48 PM
When you scream and scream I don't want to get bitten
yet no one listens
frustration is the word that on your forehead seems written.

...and in the same way...

Struggling, struggling, struggling
with time I'm so much juggling
but, oh wait There's no time!
I got lost in the dwindling alleys of mind
Seems like everything runs through my hands
Where's that book now again, in what pile?

Things that looks easy
things I know people can do
frustrate the h ell out of me
Why can't I do it too?

Yet sometimes the greatest frustration
is that my way of living's not much estimated.

next one... scorn

11-01-06, 07:31 PM
It seems this chain of poems got a bit messed up so I am coming up with a new for me to start.

Confidence is burning its way

Through the soles of my feet

To the palms of my hands

Through the doubt and fear

To the tips of my heart

And slowly making itís way

Up higher and higher

My smiles are beginning to grow

And my inner critic is taking a permanent vacation

I can look at others now

And feel happy for them

I can experience

The fun exciting life of my dreams

With out even taking a moment to think about it

Iíve made my way through the dark tunnel

And I can see bright light

Leading my towards my dreams

Humbly handing me success bit by bit

Whispering the words ď savor the momentĒ

I take its advice and absorb the light

Sharing its glory

Letting it leave an invisible trail

Of happiness and love

large stacks of them

of money I dreamable
but alas
they are unredeemable
Wow, RADD. I am touched. My husband would even like this one, which puts you up with Ogden Nash and Tom Lehrer....

But now for vision....

I must write a poem with vision.
Though tempted to rhyme it with fission
Twould be myopic.
True vision discerns the sublime
Changeless through cataracts and eddys of time
Thru focused optic
Of reason, humor, decision
All glasses change to some revision
But final answers never do
You may remember 42....

Ok, so it's not deep. Great poet of the next post, here is your word....

11-03-06, 05:19 PM

The mind's rumbling coffins

I savor sweet sleep tonight

Next Word: Series

02-19-07, 11:53 PM
life is a series of reactions,
udjustments from what we do.
is it all just cause and effect,
like one and one is two?
or is the future random,
with no logic to be found?
mabe its a mixture of the two,
that helps spin the world so round.

next word: dream catcher

03-07-07, 01:02 PM
As I lay awake silent shadows lurk in corners,
Slowly, creeping inch by inch they slip closer,
And as I finally let my eyeluids droop, I see a small flicker of colour,
Starting at my toes it seeps ever nearer,
Finally as I tries to ease itself into my ear,
I snatch it,
Caught it struggles and then lays still,
I open my hand to see it closer,
Jewelled and glistening, dark and menacing, I have it at last,
The dream.

If you truly believe this you are clueless.
All the time we have missed,
someday it will haunt you just wait and see
you will find your self all alone and wanting,
wishing for a family you left behind.
I wanted to say i would be happy

Got this poem while in graduate school. Great way to remind us how to ring the context out of context. I think the author is Haddon Robinson, but I might be wrong on that.

I had six faithful friends who taught me all I knew
What, where, when, why, how, who.

Next word: inspiration

04-05-07, 07:48 AM
Where does it come from?

Where does it hide?

How do call upon it,

Our creative side.

Do we get it from within?

Or just part of perspiration?

Or does it hit us from above

A flash a boom

A lighting quick inspiration.

What ever it is where ever its birth,

I am thankful itís in me,

With out it Iím trapped within,

But with it Iím set free.

On the solid Rock of Christ we must stand
All other ground is sinking sand.
All other ground is sinking sand.

next word: eternity

04-26-07, 07:07 AM
One two three, oh daddy look at me.

Four five six, do you like my tricks?

Our children are young but only once,

The time we have with them is all to brief.

When we think we have so long,

OK so I am taking the word as Enchantment.

Trickling over streams
Water glistens
As sun rays struggle through
forest ways. Running forth
enchantment beauty
depth depriving dashed
amongst the
rugged rocky plains

The vortex conversions spinning
with in angels of fiery display
reaching out calling
sense of yearning
Mind senses destroyed
blotted by beauty
staring, stuck rigid
unable to move
as you taken in
with wonder, willfully
into the deep
ravine of enchantment.

Next word: Fortune

05-09-07, 07:27 AM
OK so I am taking the word as Enchantment.
yes sorry about the mess of the word.:o

Where is the fortune?

is it really riches that I seek, or is it somthing more?
am I over reaching, or trying to even the score?
for so long I"ve waited, tried to be the best.
Yet It seems that each time, I'm beaten by the rest.
Then I take another look, and see what I've been delt.
to my surprise, its different than what Ive felt.
the fortune's not in the riches, its not how much we own,
but its in the giving where our seeds are truly sewn.
Its all about the ones we touched, the ones we helped along.
the looks they gave my, the voices so full of song.
that is their thankyou, the way the pay me back.
those are the actual treasures, the gold within the sack.
some day I"ll see them, ill hold thier hands once more,
It will be on that day, I will finally even the score.

What can be sharp? Words can be sharp and cut like knives. What else can be sharp? pencils, turns, cheddar cheese, needles, zero sharp is a matmatical set theory, musical sign notice, sharpness can refer to video or audio settings, sharp can also mean to be smart. That's all I can think of.

Of life itself,
A pain did shimmer,
turned her head twice
the space became thinner.

Yet in darkness
was not she could see
only felt colder as the object held its glimmer.

obvious the blade was sharp,
a trickle of life became a hum, like a harp.

her noise reflected a cry
her face destroyed by the moonlit sky,

one more look
was all thats had
fear glowed brighter
rather than dark.

next word : attention

06-03-07, 03:20 AM
'Pay attention!'
How do you pay attention and who is it you pay?
Why do I lose my focus every second of the day?
I start with good intentions and energy ablaze,
But after thirty minuets I fall into a daze.

My day is full of wonder I constantly amaze,
The hours of the day just slip into a haze,
Did I turn off the TV? And where did I put my keys?
I've just learned that I might have ADD.

Cheese, being im from wisconsin I think Ill take that word.
it comes in a wheel,
it comes in a brick.
it can be thinly sliced,
it can be thick.
it can be mild,
it can be strong,
it has many uses,
none of wich is wrong.
but only in wisconsin
for this im willing to go to bat,
it is only here you can find.
a wedge of cheese made into a hat.

I mused the idea

of paddling down a stream

i focused on the idea

it must be a dream.

To put my thoughts in action

i packed a little bag

and in it i tossed anything i had:eyebrow:

I travelled near a bay

the water calm

yet so far away

i realised id made a move

a wonderful thought in creation

i took my waters edge

plunged my fishing rod afar

looked arund the ledge

then realised....I'M ON VACATION:)

I'll try to get the ball roling again.

jubilation of the pack

They run, they dance,
thier tails held high.
they snap, they growl,
each sound a happy sigh.
the pack is growing,
the jubilation they cant hide,
their emotions are bubbling,
rising like the tide.
the pups were born,
tomarows leaders are here,
so tonight they celebrate,
with out any fear.
yes the pack is growing,
getting stronger and stronger,
their future is brighter,
and a whole lot longer.

next word: changes

"Don't come close. I'm not ready to meet you. I can't embrace you.
Leave me be. Too much has happened and I'm not ready.
I have to walk alone, head bowed to the sun, eyes cast sideways.
You can't help me. I am alone.

It hurt too much - then.

But you persevered. You didn't give up. You knew I would remember.

Each day the sun rose - warm and welcoming. It never stopped.
Waiting patiently.

My eyes slowly opened. I caught a glimpse and smiled.

I embraced the day ahead.

Changes are welcome - I am walking with you again.

next word: Extraordinary

shelly I like it.

cant slow down
I cant explain this extraordinary feeling that grips me,
Its like a sensation Ive never known.
I feel like Im flying, singing dancing,
acting in ways Ive never shown.
I cant slow down, I can not stop,
I just keep moving, I have to go.
My head is twirling, going round and round.
my breathing comes in faster, but still i do not slow.
I go from one place to another,
always moving, never to cease.
so still i continue my search, its never ending.
all i want is a measure of peace.
next word, labored

08-21-07, 05:00 AM
Stargazing into the black velvet
Labored over the thought
Written on the door of the cubicle
Boxs of my memories
Turned yellow stale with years
Tears which belong to others
Calm falls and fails to catch
Me with it tender hands.

Next Word: Piano

08-21-07, 05:23 AM
Upon those keys we deeply muse
As our head dances with the different views
As the keys begin to take us away
To a place somewhere beyond today.

next word: follow

08-27-07, 07:12 AM
Follow my head, Follow my heart?
should I follow my head, should I follow my heart,
this I have never been able to decide,
one is predictable,
like the moving of the tide.
the other it flows,
not know wich way it will turn.
But I have this yearning,
primal instint that begins to burn.
It tells me I have to move,
find things that are new.
So which do I choose?
shall it be the logic i seek,
or is it the feelings i find true?
Is there a way to bring them together,
heart mind and soal,
That way I can truly walk the path,
bring it into one,
and really find my goal.
next word, colors

08-29-07, 04:03 PM
Wow!! That was a very touching poem...

Here is literally an on the spot poem.

Colors are like emotions.
Some bright and bold
Passionate and optimistc.
Like a naive school child.

While some other colors.
Carry a darker mood.
Like a rainy a day.
Soaking wet in misery.

And most of the times
We forget how important the dark colors are.
We're too lost in the pinks and the reds and the oranges.
To realize what the darker colors give us.

The blacks, blues, and purples
give us depth.
And ultimately wisdom.
Without them we'd be lost.

Perhaps the colors of a rainbow
Both light and dark together.
Are a perfect metephor for how we should live our lives.

08-30-07, 08:04 AM
wonderfull poem stargirl,I love the use of so many different colors. the use of the rainbow as a metaphore for bringing people and fostering understanding is great. I do my poems while sitting at the coffee shop early morning where do you do your musing? btw what is the next word?

08-30-07, 02:16 PM
Why thank you Lunaslobo. I liked your word colors. It's one of those words that can be interpreted in so many different ways. I enjoy writtting in any place that inspires me. Weather that's on this forum reading beautiful poems or cuddled in[my bed at night with a pen, it makes no difference.

And my next word is Beauty.

08-31-07, 07:23 AM

I see it all around me,
its in the flowers, trees, and sky.
I see it in the people of the world,
its even in a new babies cry.
Its all over the world,
in places that were wrong,
September 11, and katrina,
showed how together we are strong.
yes there is beauty in tragady,
its how we work as one,
hand in hand, back or white,
we join to get the job done.
so no matter what we see around us,
if we are red, white, or even blue,
we will not find it in the our faces,
it's from within where the beuaty is true.
next word: advocate

08-31-07, 07:38 AM
As the weight of our wrongs are the cause of the slippery slope
So there is only One in whom we can place our hope
It is He who died and rose again for all of us
The great advocate Christ Jesus

Next word: propitiation

09-05-07, 06:58 AM

Searching forward, searching past,
I just cant find it, am I really so lost?
Always wanting, always grabbing,
never seeing what it cost.
Now its all catching up to me,
the debt i have built must be paid.
But my wealth is gone,
my gold is mislaid.
So I begin my searching,
to fill this empty hole,
but instead im falling,
my soul turning as black as coal.
Have I nothing to offer,
something that will save,
or once again will i drown,
as I am covered by the monster wave.
I have only one place left to go,
I bow my head on bended knee,
I ask forgiveness,
beg that I be set free.
the act of propitiation was so simple
I am engulfed in such a wonderous feel
I feel the tears sting my wondering eyes
as I wonder if this miricle can be real.
my past and my future come crasing down,
I see that I am not alone,
my higher power is and always has been,
by my side with love he has shown.
