View Full Version : Ritalin sex drive- please help
Mrjoe1008 04-10-06, 01:41 PM Hello,
I have been taking various combinations of Ritalin/Concerta since HS...I am currently in my second yr of college. These past few months especially, I have no sex drive at all...these past few weeks, I have been effectively impotent.
Has anyone experienced anything similar to the above? Is there anything I can take to reverse this? Any ideas?
<O:p
I really am at a complete loss and would appreciate any info.<O:p</O:p

Thank you for any help at all!<O:p</O:p
Frangible 04-21-06, 03:11 AM Yeah stimulants kill my libido as well; though high doses increase it tremendously but make it very difficult to orgasm or ejaculate. (you can read all sorts of stimulant-induced sex binge stories on Erowid.org if you're bored)
Anyway, I found the hormone precursor DHEA (sold anywhere herbal supplements are) restored mine. It took about 3-4 weeks though. 25 mg/day made it normal, 50 mg/day was too much and was uh, uncomfortable.
DHEA has fairly inconsistent results in studies, so it may or may not help you. I'm also kind of cursed with moderate androgen insensitivity, so that was probably part of it. (I hope your ring finger is longer than your index finger, or you've got the same problem I do)
Also exercise can have benefits to your sex drive. If you're overweight, that can hurt your libido too. (fat cells convert testosterone to estrogen with a hormone called aromatase. actually in males estrogen is responsible for libido, but estrogen can't cross the blood-brain barrier very well and testosterone can, where it gets aromatized within the brain. uh, anyway.)
dwightbean 04-22-06, 05:30 PM hm. i'm almost under the impression that i can orgasm better when *on* ritalin. perhaps it's because i'm not drifting when it's happening.
I find that Ritalin has the same sort of effect on me. While on it, my sex-drive seems to be lacking, if not completely suppressed. Time off of Ritalin seems to show quick improvements, but it all comes down to being either productive or horny.

I hated that but now i'm not taking it and it's the opposite so now I could relate to ya, LOLLL.
strangely all stimulant type drugs have an positive effect on my sexdrive amphetamine-mdxx(mdma etc)-cocaine maybe even ephedra. they all increase desire for sex, as i have a somewhat lowered sexdrive to begin with, something usefull right.
they however have an delaying effect on erection and orgasm time, normally i am very fast for my liking, so positive.
now about methylphenidaat/ritalin, while taking this prescribed for my add i thought yes good sex! no no, ritalin defenitly puts my sexuality in the fridge. my member works no impotence noted. but the brain arrousel or how you would call it just aint there, like its has an zombificating effect on me.
i do however eat lots of basilicum/ basel (in english:confused: ) just love the taste, which has an very noticeble effect on your erection. something to do with increasing bloodflow. so you could try that .... succes joe and others!
i am trying to switch to dextro-amphetamin which i hope doesnt have this characteristic effect on sexdrive
My sex drive seemed to be low while taking Ritalin. Hard to judge when you are 50 years old. I recently started on Zoloft again and my sex drive hit the roof. This was noticable in 2 days. Is this medically possible? Has anyone else had this experience. Is this just a coincedence? Will it last? I hope it lasts forever.

to the original questioner, are you sure it related to ritalin. reread your post and you seem to be taking your medication for some time. and out of the sudden you stopped enjoying sex first a few months and finally become impotent. so i am wondering anything happened a few months ago. could be anything from change in medication dosage to stress. have you sought medical help.
at this moment i am at day 4 and 3 months on kinda low dose methylphenidate, prescribed 3x10 mg. taking alot less due to nasty side effects, don t worry appointment with a psychiatrist about medication is coming.
but what i wanted to mention is that i feel total mental impotence at this point, physically everything works. but you would have to force me ... as figure of speaking off course. in my case this seems a direct effect of the mph as nothing else dramatically changed these days. it sucks
Yeah, Ritalin sends my libido sky high too. Which is weird, because in my younger years, when I tried Cocaine recreationaly, whilst the desire was there, it didn't help in a physical sense, if you know what I mean!
in theory ritalin should increase libido, some doctors prescribe it as needed to reduce sexual dysfunction (lack of arrousal) from ssri's (prozac, zoloft, etc).
Matt S. 11-28-06, 12:05 PM Ritalin and Focalin seem to give me that issue but the amphetamine medications seem to work like a "viagra"
