I have noticed the past 3 days I feel different than what I usually do. The adderall-Xr was helping me so much. I had a lot more energy, got my housework done everyday, was feeling extremely optimistic and insightful, and was a much better conversationalist.

The past few days I have been feeling tired despite getting at least 8-9 hours of sleep a night. I have this ache in my lower back and I have been feeling a little spaced out and foggy. I am not in a really sad or angry mood but I am not as happy as I usually am, nor do I have the energy I used to have.

I still take the 20 mgs a day and a week ago, the dose was increased by 10 mgs. I take 20 in the morning and 10 at night.I have been on Adderall since March 9th and take it everyday.

I just quit smoking and I am showing signs of starting my menstrual cycle really soon so I am hoping that nicotine withdrawal and PMS are my problems and not the meds. Hopefully my problems are only temporary.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I feel your pain. I take Adderall XR 30mg and it worked great before I had a baby. My shrink says that adderall can act as a short term antidepressant and that you can build a tolerance.

Yes. I would agree that, based on my experience, one QUICKLY builds a tolerance to those initial FEEL-GOOD feelings. It has been disappointing to me too, but that thrill we feel when we first start the stimulant DOES go away (in a matter of days sounds about right). Give it a little more time to see if the effect - WITHOUT the euphoria - is something you find helpful.

Many of us do feel helped by these medications even after the euphoria is gone. It often just takes a little while to grieve the loss of that great feeling. (That's why it's such an ADDICTIVE substance. Try not to fixate on that initial euphoria. It's not really what the medication is prescribed for, and as you're noticing, if you DO experience euphoria in the beginning of treatment - it WILL end - but the medication still works to treat our ADHD.)

I never felt euphoria. I feel better, if anything, at the end of the day - when the meds have worn off. I get a charge in that the day went really well - not this random, unfocused walk.

Jett: Nicotine is a stimulant - so withdrawal can and will slow you down. I got tired after I quit may years ago. It will get better in that department, however.

Could definitely be PMS related. I've noticed that the adderall barely works at all right before I start my period!

There are so many things going on, that it would be hard to say what is making you feel the way you do. I do find that the dosage that is effective for me does change with how I feel, to some extent - some days I feel I need a little more, others, a little less. And the amount that was initially effective, did need to increase a little bit at first - but now I find the effective amount has stayed the same. I still feel the "euphoria" as well. It's been a year or more for me at the same dose and it still works the same for me - perhaps I'm lucky?
