View Full Version : Looking for a doctor in DC

Hello all:

I'm looking for a doctor in Washington, DC who can diagnose and treat attention deficit issues. Basically, I'm at the point where I'm getting maybe 1/3 of what I need to get done at work, and I'd like to talk to someone about it.

Does anyone have any recommendations (or anyone I should avoid for that matter)?

Thanks so much!

Gloria Morote in Alexandria did my formal testing. She was one of two people recommended to me by a specialist at Georgetown. She's a neuropsychologist, and I don't think she does regular treatment.

As for regular treatment, lots of shrinks claim they can treat adult ADD, but I suspect that most of them don't know much about it. I was being treated for depression by a guy that was considered a top ranked specialist. But I was still the one that brought the possibility of ADD up after months of successful treatment for depression and on-going problems with motivation and decision making related things. He agreed with me about the preliminary assumption and started meds, but he really didn't know what else to do with me.

Kathleen Nadeau practices in Silver Spring, but I think her practice is limited mainly to women. Try Brian Doyle near Dupont Circle. He doesn't take insurance though. In fact, I'm not sure that any real Adult ADD specialists in the area do take any insurance.

I have a great Doc, if you want to be referred to him.
He's not in DC, but in a nearby county in MD.

He's a private Psych-Doc, who does specialize in ADD/HD, among other 'things'- but you'll have to pay 'up front' (cash or check only) and get reimbursed from your medical insurance when you turn in your insurance claim.

PM me if you want his info.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone. I'll PM those who suggested it.

Hopefully my insurance will cover this stuff on the backend...

This may be a little late, but I go to a doctor in upper NW, on Davenport. He seems knowledgeable, if a little gruff. I'll give you his contact info if you'd like -- just PM me. :)

Neurobehvioral Associates in Columbia does neuropsych evals and sspecializes in attention disorders. You will have to find a doc to treat you after the dx.
They don't accept insurance, so be prepared to pay. cost is about $1800 Plan on spending the better part of the day in testing. It is a pretty comprehensive workup.
