Anyhow, anyone seen the movie Thumbsucker? If so what did you think of how it portrays ADD/ADHD in high school teens? I personally think it did a fairly good job and it brought back memories.

What do you think the message of the movie was?

I personally dont like how they diagnosed the ADHD or how the medication seems to work the next day but other than that the movie was really good.

I've never heard of the movie, is it new or old?

I just watched it last night. Im not sure how I found it but i got it through netflix. It has keanue reeves(spelling?) in it so maybe thats how I heard about it.

Anyways its about a teen boy who is having a lot of problems with school, family, relationships...life in general. It turns out he is ADHD.

I know the title and the preview can be misleading. Most people dont actually know this movie is about a learning disorder and dismiss it for a movie about thumbsucking. Its not just a movie about a thumsucking teenager but its much more.

Why are they saying that thumbsucking is an ADD trait?

I dont think they are. In fact, I have had this movie for 3 or 4 months. It didnt really look interesting to me so I havent watched it. I thought it was a bout a kid who sucks his thumb and i was like, "eh looks dumb". I finally watched it last night after reading a review about what it was really about.

anyways I dont really know why he sucks his thumb or why they even put thumbsucking into the movie. Perhaps someone can rent the movie and figure it out and tell me :)

He basically uses his thumbsucking as a crutch. When he argues with his parents, he sucks his thumb. When he cant speak in front of class and give a report, he sucks his thumb.

I have not seen the movie-I thank you for this thread though. I have been trying to figure out what the name of the movie was! Its been driving me nuts!

I don't think they were betraying thumb sucking as symbolism in the movie. But here's the deal. Thumb sucking is just a quirk for him. But the society said No you can't suck your thumb. Causing the main character to think he was different and had problems. Basically what they were saying is that it was all in his head. In the end he figured it out and accepted himself for who he is.

I don't suck my thumb, maybe other things, but not my thumb! =)
