- The Past -
I was diagnoised with ADD (inattentive) in my elementary school years. I could not keep my hands to myself, listen, sit still, focus on work, and overall function effectly. It must have been grade 2 that I was put on Ritalin. I began to do well in school, and behave well, and remained on Ritalin until grade 4 when my parents decided my academic accomplishments were so good that Ritalin may not be required any longer.
- The Current -
I am graduating this year, but have been procrastinating far too much. I know that I am capable of so much more, but it just seems so hard to get things done some times. I find it difficult to concentrate on anything that isn't of interest to me (espescially math) and have even more trouble with procrastination.
Recently I've gone to a phsycologist and been re-assessed regarding my ADD. He's put me on a trial of Ritalin SA (short acting) until we find my "maintanance dose", at which time I'll switch to an appropriate Ritalin LA (long acting) dose. Starting at 5mg once daily and moving up (in 5mg increments) to my current 35mg (still once daily), I'm beginning to notice slight increases in my concentration.
I'm concerned by how long it is taking to find my "maintanance dose," especially considering that a single dose of Ritalin SA can wear off after just a few hours (often diminished before I even start my primary courses). It's been over a month and I'm still not sure I can definately feel it's effects. I'm 150lbs and 18 years old.
Should I be noticing more effects at this dose? At this rate, I will never stop increasing the dose. When should I stop? I'm really confused here, and I'm not really even sure what to expect. Any feedback would be appreciated.
