Hi!

I finally decided to get some help and started taking adderall 5 days ago for my ADD.
I should have done this 10 years ago when I started college.(28 year old male, the only one in the family who did not go to an Ivy League school)

The adderall is helping me focus and organize my thoughts. I THINK FIRST before doing something. I'm learning new and better ways to operate.

However, I'm still hyper. About day 2 or 3, I've noticed that I'm a lot more figitty- - I have this need to move, to figit with things to, to play with objects around me.

Should I be trying some other form of treatment for ADD?

You've only been on Adderall 5 days, although it works right away, it takes your body time to adjust.
You might want to give it more time before considering a different med.

When I first started taking Adderall, I was really jittery, it settled after about a week.

It sounds like Adderall is working well for you fairly well, thus far.
Something else to consider (with your doc) before trying a different med is trying a different dose.

BTW, welcome to the forums! If you have a moment, take time to write up an introduction thread in the New Member Introduction forum. The link is in my signature.

i've found that regular physical exercise can help with that, it helps get rid of the excess energy. plus, regular physical exercise has plenty of other benefits. however, you should definitely speak with your doctor first since working out on a stimulant might pose some problems for some people. i personally do not find it to cause problems aside from excess sweating, but i have a fairly low blood pressure and body temperature. however, if your doctor clears you, working out can really help.

Welcome!!!

That's great Adderall is working for you!!! Dosage may help, I'm finding that I'm still fidgety (I was on concerta (extended release ritalin), now regular ritalin). but the focusing and thinking of new organizational strategies is amazing isn't it?!?! Also, I agree with chaos that 5 days isn't long, and usually the first dosage given by the doc isn't what you will need in the long run. I think better docs like to give lower doses at first and see how you do before going to higher doses, less risk of serious side effects and your body doesn't have such a shock from the med if you are sensitive.

I think for me, the fidgeting is related a lot to my stress (high right now) and lack of activity (so busy, fit it in when I can, but not as often as usual). So I agree with the others, talk about dosage. A change in meds may not be needed since adderall is working in all other ways for you. Also, the exercise may help if you aren't doing it as much. It calms, focuses, and is a stress relieve if stress is contributing to your fidgeting.

I've noticed that Ritalin products seem to do better for individuals with a lot of hyperactivity/fidgetyness. I know it's anecdotal, and it's not backed up by any research, but I've seen it many times myself.

I agree you need to give the Adderall some more time as well as going through a full dose titration. If it's not effective after all that, switch to something methylphenidate based.
