View Full Version : How do I avoid crashing?

on Adderall? I thought XR would do the trick - better than IR. XR is no better. Ritalin and Concerta did the same. At the "end" of the day - headache, some nausea, aches and pains. It only lasts for an hour or 2 but its the pits. Its strange too, because after the crash - I wake up for the rest of the evening - and feel quite good.

I guess this is the price to pay for focus throughout the day .... I think it has something to do with Adderall-induced loss of appetite.

Any ideas?

Some people just crash more then others no matter what. You may be correct on the food issue though. Some people will definitely crash much harder if they haven't eaten well, and haven't kept up their fluids. I've also heard that exercising around this time really helps people. So I would try forcing yourself to eat something about an hour before this time. Drink some water, then go exercise. See if it helps:p
Good luck!

I agree with LadyM, 100%. Eating well all day, and drinking plenty of water is very important. I find that if I excercise during my "crash" I don't crash at all.

good luck!

That may be the problem. Yesterday, for instance ... I worked out (1 hr on an elliptical) from about 3 to 4pm. I crashed at 5pm.

My food intake is terrible on Adderall. Since I work out a lot, I drink about 5L of water a day - so that's fine. In general, I am a health nut (at my age its kind of required to function well).

Perhaps if I had worked out at the crash time (i.e.- 5pm to 6pm), and force fed myself all day - things might get better. I will try it.

The only problem is that I really never liked eating before adderall, now I detest it! TIme for a "life change" I guess.

We have recently adopted a boy from foster care who has about the worst ADHD I've ever seen, or even read about. Concerta was a miracle drug for him, with one awful exception - the evening crashes (rebounds). Out of desperation, I asked our doctor about trying a longer acting ADHD med in addition to the Concerta. We tried Strattera and the results were amazing. The first week on it, the rebounds ended completely, and he became much more focused in the mornings. The Strattera also lessened many of his sensory issues, and helped him be more sociable with others. He did go through a brief period of agitation at first, but that went away quickly.

Since he is a growing boy, there has been need to increase his meds, but when Medicaid told us they would no longer pay for both Concerta and Strattera together, we were left with having to stop one med. We chose to continue the Strattera. He is no longer as well focused as he used to be, but he is a far sight better than he was before we began the Concerta, and much better than when he was on the Concerta alone.

Have you tried a lower dose? A friend of mine had the same problem, lowered her dose by 5mg and it went away within two days! :)

I used to crash hard too with Adderall XR but now with the help of Attend (It's an Homeopathic Medecine), I don't crash anymore. Once I ran out of Attend and my crash came back, I try St-John's Wort (Herbal Supplement) and it help to decrease my adderall crash. I red that half of the effect of ADDERALL XR will work right aways and the other half will work 4 hours later, is it true?

I red that half of the effect of ADDERALL XR will work right aways and the other half will work 4 hours later, is it true?Supposedly its true - but not for me - the whole pill works for only about 4-5 hours.

I did notice that I crash less (much less) on IR rather than XR. ??????

Eating and drinking soda helped me.

Eating helped because I didn't eat all day. The soda gave me a nice medium step so in stead of going from strong stim to no stimulent in my body. I went from strong stim to weak stim to no stim. The extra step made it smoother for me.

Adderall's come-down is pretty bad for a prescription drug. I like to time it so that it's wearing out around my bed time...I find that I fall asleep quite quickly once the effects have fully worn off.

I like to time it so that it's wearing out around my bed time..Even dosing a total of 60mg over the day I get 6 hours of effectiveness - which is better than nothing - so I have alot of "unfocused" time.

I do need to eat more and am going to try that. I don't like to eat and Adderall makes it worse. I start my Adderall to work around noon and crash around 6pm - even with XR thats all I get. Definitely I'm going to schedule a food break during that time.

It used to suppress my appetite like the first few months. Thankfully thats past and I eat regularly now. I used to get cotton mouth but for some strange reason that gone to.

Oh crap anyone here had the Amphetamine salts that are white octogon shape like? I think right aid made the switch.

Man they have a different effect.
