Hi everyone,

I was just prescribed 10 mg adderall xr by my psych about a week ago. I have not been "officially" diagnosed with adhd, but I meet the DSM-IV criteria for ADHD. I take this med at 7:00 each morning, and it is a godsend for me. I am able to complete and finish my homework almost every night, when off of the med I would never finish my homework. When being lectured in class, everything is much clearer to me. However, I still often lose touch with what's going on in class. What I mean by this is somebody is talking to me (a friend on the phone, a teacher lecturing in class, etc.) and I will start thinking about something totally irrelevant while they are talking to me. I often don't realize I am doing this when they are talking to me. When I do realize when this is happening to me, I completely miss what they are trying to say to me. I have to pretend like I have understood what they have said. I also still make a lot of careless errors like misspelling words I know how to spell and making mathematical errors. However, the med helps me detect the errors almost instantly. instead of never catching them.
My biggest problem is that the med wears off around 2:30 and I need it to last through my homework afterschool. When I comedown from the med, my moodiness comes back. My parents think I am giving them "additude". The medicine has eased a lot of my frustration that I experience from school work, partially because I am a perfectionist. I also get little work done afterschool, so I have to finish as much homework as possible during the school day and during the weekends.I have resorted a few times to taking another adderall xr, which keeps me up till 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. I know that it is really bad to not follow the instuctions on the prescription, so I plan on never doing it again. What do you think my doctor will likely do about the med wearing off? Also, do you think I could benefit from an increase in my Adderall XR dosage?

I have to pretend like I have understood what they have said. LOL! Haven't we all either become masters pretending to listen? I can spit back a decent portion of what someone says to me and make comments on it... all without actually digesting and comprehending any of it. Wierd.

Anyways, as far as the meds wearing off, many people add an immediate release adderall around 8 hours after you take the morning xr.
