I went to see a shrink for the first time on Friday. I was diagnosed with ADD as a child and finally at 31 decided I may need some help.

He diagnosed me as bipolar and said I was originally misdiagnosed.

He prescribed me Lithium but it is only day 3, any advise ya'll can give?

Ok, I do think the Manic symptoms describe me pretty well, but I have only had a few depressive eppisodes and they were after having my kids, hormone related.

I have always been very chatty, very happy, although shy, and I tend to isolate myself.

Sometimes it is extremely hard to focus which is the reason I was sure I had ADD as previously diagnosed.

Oh yeah and most importantly I am normally a very nervous, high strung person.

Since mania and ADD have so much in common, how am I supposed to tell the difference?

From what I understand, bipolar and ADHD can be very difficult to distinguish from one another. Learning more information can help you become aware of why the Dr. decided you were misdiagnosed and maybe agree or disagree with him. If you are still uncomfortable, go for another opinion or keep asking him and probing to learn more. I hope you get an accurate diagnosis!
