This morning I ate breakfast and took 2 Aderall and 1/2 Lexapro, also drank a glass of water with it like this instructions said. This is my first day on Lexapro. I feel very jittery, a bit "buzzed," dizzy, nauseated, VERY nervous, and easily startled (phone ringing makes me jump).I also feel hot under my skin and my eyes are slow to focus. I feel pretty awful, and still feel yucky and it's been 12 hours since I took 5mgs.

I was like that when I first started taking Lexapro in combination with 20mg Dexedrine SR per day. I started on 5mg Lexapro for the first 3 days and then 10mg so I would ease into it.

Well the first day I took the Lex, I was over at my friends house and we decided to go to Walmart to buy a frisbee and other wonderful spring day necessities. Well it felt like to me that it potentiated the Dexedrine substantially. I felt like such a dirty tweaker, it was incredible how strong the effects were. Every little noise would make me swing my head quickly to locate it, I was super impatient, pretty aggressive (I'm never aggressive) and straight up jacked out of my mind.

Let me tell you... Walmart is NOT a good place to be when you are like that... I swear I would've ripped the self checkout lane equipment apart because it kept screwing up if my freind hadn't pulled me away from it...

Anyways, I know exactly how you feel. Fortunately, like with most of the side effects I experienced from Lexapro, they tend to become quite a bit less noticable as you get used to it. For the first week I was on it (3 days at 5mg, 4 days on 10mg) I was getting quite a few negative effects, but by the end of the week they had pretty much gone away.

That was a month ago and now with 10mg I find it exceptionally hard to point out any side effects at all. So hold out a bit, they go away pretty quickly.

Good luck to you sir and if you have any other questions about it or other medications just let me know. :)

Levity, Lexapro, and You

"Hello, (enter mental health treatment center here), how can we assist you today?"

"Yes, I don't know what's wrong. I'm burning up for no reason. And my mind is racing. Nothing makes sense right now. I think I just fed the fan and plugged in the cat. I can't be too sure about that."

"Okay sir, I'm the nurse. What meds are you taking?"

"Umm yes, horse tranquilizers and beer."

"Sir, horse tranquilizers and beer?! Sir, you do understand that you are to never drink with your medication right?"

"Oh the beer isn't for me."

"How's that sir?"

"Oh it’s for the horse. He's still pretty ticked over me taking his tranquilizers."

"Uh huh. Okay... okay sir, you are having hot flashes and racing thoughts?"

"Yes. That's correct. And I have the shakes. They are bad."

"The shakes sir?"

"Yes. I don't like them. It’s almost maddening. My wife says they helped her fall in love with me all over again, but I don't know what she's rambling on about."

"Uh huh. Well sir, That aside, sounds like the Lexapro is activating you."

"So is that why I felt the need to call everyone in the phone book just to wish them a freakin nice day in the three days that I didn’t sleep?"

"That was you?! You mutha… umm, ahem, sir, yes, the doctor wants you to cut the Lexapro in half but double your sleep meds…. Wha.. Are you insane? The man is on 1700 milligrams of horse tranquilizers! I didn’t know that was medically ethical more or less medically possible. And he functions in a working society like this?! You are kidding me! Umm, er, sir, you still there?"

"Yes though a bit distracted. I just emailed everyone in the phone book naked pictures of Bea Arthur and an online coupon for an eggbeater. Not sure why I did that exactly. Just seemed the right thing to do."

"You sick fu.. Umm, sir, yes, the doctor says to cut the pill in half and double your sleep meds. As for the fan, take it out at least every eight hours. And for the cat, turn the ear to high and press the nose for it to spread the breeze around the room by oscillating. Everything will be just fine."

The symptoms were real, the story... not so much. But funny! Hopefully funny. Yall keep on keeping on. Its a journey of a thousand steps. Can you count all the ones you've made? Start counting the ones that are next. They matter the most. God bless.

Well, that was just awful! I felt like I was totally drugged up, like on some majorly bad wrong drug. It felt like the whole world was moving fast and I was in slow motion. I wasn't impatient or aggressive, I was too out of it to do anything. I'm never taking that again, it's not worth it.

If there's a chance that I'll react like this on other anti-depressants, I'll pass on those too.

Yesteday I called and talked to a nurse, she told me to stop taking it and not to take it again until I can talk directly to my ARNP that prescribed it to me. I don't think I will be taking it again ever.
