My cocktail:
Adderall IR - 50mg/day
Lexapro - 10mg/day

I'm experiencing extreme lethargy and sleepiness when I don't take Adderall (usually on the weekends). Even during the week, I have a very hard time getting out of bed. It's like walking around in a blur until Adderall kicks in. It seems to be getting worse. Yesterday I pretty much slept all day.

In my last session, my doc said we might switch me to Prozac since it tends to have less of a sedating effect. But, she wanted me to give it another week or two on Lex since it just FINALLY started to make a difference with my depression. I hate to give it up if it's working, but this is just ridiculous! Coffee doesn't even help. I have to take Adderall to be half-way human and that just seems like misuse/abuse.

Has anyone switched from Lexapro to Prozac? Even if you don't take stimulants, I'd still like to hear your experiences.

I know how you feel. I had the same reaction to Lexapro/Celexa -- extremely tired and lethargic.

I've had that reaction to all the serotonin-affecting meds I've ever tried (Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, Lexapro/Celexa). A former p-doc told me some people are really "dragged down" by the SSRI-type meds.

The only antidepressant I've tried that doesn't make me tired/lethargic is Wellbutrin. Maybe your doctor would consider letting you try that one?

Good luck,
Gigi

I just hate to switch now that Lex is finally working! My pdoc said Prozac and Lex affect the same thing, but the medications are different chemicals. So most of the time the transition is pretty seamless (especially if you taper one and build up the other). I don't believe WB affects the same thing in the brain, so I'd be wary about switching to that just yet. I keep hearing Prozac is more activating while Lexapro tends to be neither overly activating or sedating, so hopefully the switch will be enough.

Unfortunately I'm out of Adderall and my stupid insurance company doesn't like the way my pdoc wrote the last prescription, so I may be the lethargic blob for another 2-3 days while they go through the "authorization"! I don't honestly know how I will be able to come in to work!
