At least for me, this seems to be true. I joined a gym not too long ago and I find I'm able to function a lot better, am happier, and generally feel better than I did over a month ago. It's funny, most people go to the gym to look good but I go so I can focus. I admit that I'm obsessive about my meds- I can't stand not being without them because I can't stand not being able to think, and I'm a bit afraid that the gym is going to follow suit, if it hasn't already. Must...have...clear...head...
I'm not shy around other people, but I am extremely awkward, which would often cause me to drink, not because I like alcohol, but because I like socializing and it was one of the only ways I found I was able to be comfortable around my friends, or by myself when I had nothing to do. Since I've started going to the gym, my alcohol consumption has pretty much stopped altogether, with the exception of a glass of wine at dinner, and I can actually be around people without transforming myself into a wallflower.

I don't have any links to prove it (someone else will provide them I'm sure), but it's been shown that exercise releases chemicals in your body that help you concentrate.

Wall flower is a term for someone who would go to a party and then try to blend in with the wallpaper. As in, would prefer not to be noticed or talked to.

A wallflower is a person who attends a social gathering but doesn't interact with anyone.

I also concentrate a lot better when I am exercising. I'm in trouble with my meds though and cannot seem to find the right combination to control depression and temporal lobe/memory ADD. My depression seems to be controlled, but my memory seems to not be there. I am getting to the point where I think THERE IS NO ACTUAL DOCTOR ON THIS PLANET THAT CAN HELP ME RECOVER FROM MY ADD SYMPTOMS! I FEEL LIKE I WANT TO GO ON OPPERA AND TELL THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD, I'M 26 YEARS OLD AND MY ADD MEMORY/TEMPORAL LOBE PROBLEMS HAVE NOT BEEN SOLVED FOR 11 YEARS!

I hope you can find a treatment that works, must be so frustrating. there are some people for whom ADD meds do not work. I hope for your sake I hope you aren't one of them!

I am a runner and I totally notice if I haven't been at it for awhile. I generally concentrate, sleep, and stay calm when I exercise...Yoga helps also(If I can stay focused) :D

I have just started going to the gym, only about three weeks now consistently, I am starting to find that it is helping me with my energy levels, and concentration too. I find it easier to read things while I am walking so I don't fall asleep! My doctor recommending that to me, and then I will start meds! Maybe I feel much better! Can't wait any longer, just kidding.

I used to cycle...a lot! Then I started taking medication about a month and a half ago and I haven't been riding so much. I think I was escaping life by riding my bike so much and now I'm actually interested in spending time with my family. I was also addicted to the motion, does that makes sense?
But I rode on Monday night and I am OUT OF SHAPE!! Ouch! It was painful! And I've lost so much muscle tone! I'm gonna ride as much as I can from now on. My husband (who used to be a professional cyclist) said I'll get back in shape pretty quick.
I need to start doing my yoga and pilates videos again too.
Anyone else used to exercise and then sort of stop after taking medication? What got you motivated to start again?
