I take 20mg 3 times a day. I wake up at 4:30am so taking only twice a day was a problem. I am only prescibed 20mg 2 times a day but I am affraid my doctor is going to think I am a speed freak. Is 60mg to high?

Take what your doctor prescribed. If you feel you need to change it, call the doctor's office and talk to him/her about it first.

My psychiatrist has told me to gradually increase my dosage as needed up to 20 mg 3x daily so it can't be uncommon. She said most people do well between 20 and 60 mg/daily. I bet your doc would understand. It only lasts so long and if you have to concentrate, you have to concentrate.

I started on 15mg 2x daily and ultimately got to the 30mg 2x daily. Some doctors like to start with the 10mgx2.

This past January, my doc started me on 1 x 5-10mg IR /day for a week, and then 1 x 15mg IR /day, just to make sure that my body didn't disagree with the drug too much.

Then we tried out 1 x 20mg XR /day (around 8 am), but that left me dragging by 1 pm. And as a college student, I really need to be able to be productive all day, through until around 8 or 9 pm. So, we tried adding 1-2 10mg IR, as needed, in the afternoons. That didn't pan out though.

I'll note here that I'm really into weight training and nutrition geekery, and am a nutrition student on the side. Before going on Adderall, I was consuming ~5000 calories/day, none coming from prepackaged food, or junk. Mostly lean meats, and fruits/veggies.

But I digress...

In any case, either because I've ramped my metabolism up really high, or because my body just is this way, I seem to burn through Adderall *very quickly*.

So to make a short story too long, I'm currently on 4 x 15mg IR /day. On many days, I don't need all 4. However, a few times each week, I need more than that, so it all averages out. I've gotta say, though, that I can't wait until finals are over, and I can take a few weeks off. Man, my body could use the rest.

As an aside, if anyone here gets muscle tension like I do as a result of Adderall, here's a way to feel better for 30 bucks: http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&cid=182&pid=1476

Essentially, you just lie down on it, and work your body over it (it's fairly intuitive). By concentrating your body weight on a small contact area, this gives a hell of a massage, and does wonders to relieve tension. There are cheaper foam rollers, but this one won't lose its shape with use (I have exactly this model).

Hey, cool.. i'm gonna buy one. I suffer from muscle tension and stiffness a lot when taking adderall. Btw, I take 60 mg at least every day (usually with a couple days off each week) so that dosage is pretty common. Cool forum.. i'll be stoppin by regularly.

I know a 60 year old lady with add, we have same doc. she is prescribed 90 a day (generic not ext. rel), I am on 30 mg a day
3 pills 3 times a day as needed. (I feel I am in more control this way than when I took the XR verstion, it would wear off in 5-7 hours)
I can lay down and go to sleep after taking 40 mg of adderal, I must have a high metabolism, I found out taking Cymbalta, it made me sleepy and the adderal not work. The doc just added Provigil to see if this would help. Most people cannot sleep at all
on the meds that I am on. I sleep like a baby.

I'd add though, just make sure to eat a big meal before you take the adderall, and be aware of your stomach as you go along throughout the day. The appetite side effect doesn't really effect me anymore--you'll probably find it'll subside with more time you've been on adderall. But when your stomach feels "weird" or uncomfortable or bloaty on adderall, it probably means you're hungry. So be aware of that. Hope this helps.

I think it's different for each person. You need to take enough to where you can function better...that's why you are taking it to begin with right?

But don't feel like just because some people take a lot that you necessarily need to take a lot too or that you aren't taking enough. Like I said before, find a does that works for YOU...don't compare!
