Bear in mind that this isn't an illegal post!!

I had been taking Ritalin for a couple months, and all of a sudden the side effects got way worse than the benefits (panic attacks, crippling depression, etc.) So my doctor changed my prescription to Adderall XR, 20 mg once a day.

Today is the first day I've taken it. I swallowed the pill at about 9:00 this morning, so I'm nearly 2 hours into my dose. I think the second "wave" of meds just kicked in.

I'm definitely more focused, and I feel like everything isn't so distracting anymore. And that's a wonderful thing. But I'm also totally rocking this euphoria thing. It's way stronger than it ever was with the Ritalin -- I feel very calm and peaceful, and a little bit like I'm floating in water (you know, that swimming feeling?). It's one of those things where if I had the choice, I'd stop working, put on a trippy movie, and giggle with friends.

Everything feels really good. Everything feels really calm. I can focus and it's easier to make the choice to focus (something I struggled with while on Ritalin).

Is this a normal sort of thing? While it's fun, I don't know that I want to go through every day stoned off my tush. Is it like the euphoria of Ritalin -- something that lasts for a couple weeks and then wears off? Has anyone experienced symptoms like this?

I don't know if this is allowed to say (and I'll certainly edit it out, or feel free to do it for me if need be) but I can totally see why people would buy this on the street. If it works this well for me, who actually has ADD and has a prescription for the drug, I can't imagine how amazing it would be for a norm taking it for exam prep or something. What a dangerous and wonderful thing this stuff is...

:faint: + :p = how I feel right now.

Thanks for reading this chemically-altered rambling...and thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hi Minniemcg,

You know I experienced the same thing when I started taking Adderall XR20mg a couple of months ago. Unfortunately that "euphoric high" doesn't last, but heck I sure do miss it. :D It was nice feeling all powerful and incredibly decisive for that one week, LOL!

Like I said, that fades over time, but the ability to focus on the meds doesn't go away unless you start building a resistance to the meds, or need a higher dose.

Cheers,

Di

I just started taking adderall again 7.5 MG IR (Shire) and I can total relate to what you are feeling. When the med kicks in I feel extremely relaxed, almost high, it's a pretty fantastic feeling. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I never got a high from either ritalin or adderall at all. Except for sleepiness when I started both, I've never felt anything. i can't tell when it kicks in or wears off. The only way I can tell it's working is by looking back on my day and seeing all the things I got accomplished that i normally couldn't.

I hope the high effect wears off soon- that sounds distracting and annoying during the course of a normal day. Have you talked to your doctor about this?

I got a euphoric "I can do it all" kind of feeling for the first few weeks on Ritalin or Adderall. It eventually went away. Now I am just naturally euphoric that my life doesn't have to be stuck in glue any more.

Enjoy the euphoria while you can. You might want to ask your Dr. about reducing your dose until these "side effects" go away.

With respect to marmalade man, Adderall works very well. Both my wife and I think it is the best for inattentive ADD. I don't think that any of these drugs really make people high. There are better drugs than stimulants for that.

Minniemcg - I suspect that a week from now the "high" will be much less pronounced - but please be careful if you feel that your judgement is impaired.

I had the same euphoric feeling when I was started on Adderall XR 20 mg. It goes away within a few days though. I kinda miss it!

My son reported feeling dizzy, and kinda silly. Maybe that is what he was trying to comunicate. It went away after the first week.
