My parents can't believe how much calmer I am since I have started taking adderall. I am not nearly as b*tchy, aggressive, arguementative, selfish, etc. My thoughts have also slowed down and my thinking has become clearer. I also have more energy but I am not bouncing off the walls and I am happier. I still have bad days.... BUT I am having many more good days than before and have made lots of improvements. I am even being nicer to my parents and acting much more loving and sensitive to the needs of others.

Is it true that if a non add'er takes a stimulant like adderall it will make them hyper?

It seems that stimulants would make you hyper and not calm. Can anyone explain this to me?

My parents have noticed the same change in me with Ritalin. Not sure why it works that way, but it's not always a bad thing!

I have had the same result. My husband says he sees definite behavioural differences. I am happier. I do not feel so stressed an fearful of losing things, or forgetting something. I am more confident. It is a definite positive change.

Hope this continues for you! That is wonderful. No, I don't know the distinction between how non-ADHDers experience amphetamines...but my psychiatrist was interested in how I described how it made me feel more calm, relaxed, and even sometimes tired. She is always amazed at how ADDers feel on it and indicated that non-adders would experience it differently.

When I was younger and my parents didn't want to medicate me, they were told to give me caffeine. Turns out that stimulants do (with smaller amounts) the exact opposite of what they normally do -- slow us down.

I have severe ADHD and find that at certain levels, some but not all stimulants make me much calmer. Coffee makes me jittery.

I had had sleeping problems all my life. Sleeping pills were of little help and only make me groggy in the morning. Usually I got less than 4 hours sleep a night if I was lucky.

Since starting Ritalin, I get a full nights sleep most of the time.

I actually usually take 5mg of Ritalin at bed-time to make sure I sleep well and am usually sleeping within 15 minutes.

Best wishes,

- Vic
