View Full Version : Adderall RX
david6789 05-14-06, 12:35 PM My daughter is on 15 mg adderall XR. I think I have adult ADD and the tests I have taken seems to prove I do. I want to see if Adderall XR would work for me. Should I take like two of my daughters pills? I know your not supposed to but maybe I will beable to see if adderall will help me then?

jonquiljo 05-14-06, 03:20 PM I'm not going to advise you for or against taking one of her pills - but if you take anything, I would start with only one - and beware that it can be very stimulating.
BTW, the way I initilally found out that I had ADD was by trying one of my wife's Adderall. But, of course, I'm not encouraging you to do anything like that.

Not to be a jerk, but it seems like you just did!
panthoot 05-14-06, 03:44 PM adderall is a controlled substance and by taking two of your daughter's pills, you are denying her two doses of medication that she needs. It can't just be made up in the next prescription like other drugs, becuse it's more closely monitored.
Also, people respond differently to drugs, so your reaction to adderall might not necessarily tell you anything relevant. Go to a psychiatrist, get tested and treated, and get on meds that work for you. Different kinds of ADD respond differently to certain meds, and you may have coexisting conditions your doctor needs to know about.
I think taking your kid's drugs is a pointless exercise. What do you think you will learn? It took me 6 weeks to notice a change from adderall- are you going to keep taking it for that long, or assume it won't work for you after one dose?
Another thing is that before you start taking adderall you need to make sure you don't have high blood pressure. Your Dr. may give you a physical or run blood work.
pyrowizard 05-14-06, 07:36 PM I would not engage in taking any meds that were not my own. If you have insurance, I would try to get tested for ADHD. Just be honest with your doc and tell him what is going on. That would be your best bet. :)
My doctor ordered bloodwork done and told me not to start the Adderall she prescribed until she was able to see that I didn't have any liver issues. She also gave me an ekg and checked my blood pressure (it was part of my annual physical), but it helped her determine that I would probably be able to handle Adderall.
I would not take it until you have a proper health screening from your doctor. I took a few online AD/HD tests and brought those results with me to the doctor. I also explained my life long battle with disorganization, procrastination, forgetfulness and tardiness. She decided to prescribe the Adderall to see if it would help (and it does!) with the stipulation that I wait for the bloodwork results to get back and that if it didn't work once I started taking it to let her know and she would consider other options.
Good luck, I hope you are able to find out whether or not you have ADD and get the assistance that you need.
SweetNicole 05-17-06, 08:07 PM Please do not believe in the “I took the pill and I felt better” approach. All you really are doing is setting yourself up to become an Amphetamine abuser. Almost every one of the people that I know who have taken Adderall while not prescribed it became to think they are ADD. Are you ready to risk your sanity, your identity, and your perception of reality just for a stimulant high? Amphetamines are similar in their effects to cocaine. Picture yourself as a cocaine addict instead of ADD. Get tested, learn about this drug (yes there is the chance of psychosis and it is common even at low dosage), don’t rob your child of medication that she should take religiously and without breaks. You should be ashamed by your selfishness to even think of taking something that is for your daughter’s wellbeing, not yours.
SweetNicole 05-17-06, 08:12 PM Side Effects of This Medicine Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

SweetNicole 05-17-06, 08:15 PM speed psychosis
Consistent heavy use or a single large dose can induce amphetamine psychosis, almost identical in symptoms to schizophrenia.
Vivid auditory hallucinations and paranoid delusions are the real frighteners and, unlike hallucinogens, the "trip" cannot be turned around. This is a very real mental state caused by over-excitement of the brain's fright centres.
Its effects often start with curiosity, deep thought, and paranoia. Its slow build up makes it all the more dangerous, as it is harder to recognise the symptoms.
Some people get into obsessional activities, ironing or scrubbing floors though the night, or dismantling and reassembling electrical equipment.
While amphetamine psychosis is much more common amongst heavy regular users there are real dangers that any small amount of speed used by a person with schizophrenic tendencies could push them over the edge
