am not sure if I am in the right place, But I think I might have ADD. My whole life I have had a hard time getting things done never being able to finish and I am in my 30s. I also worry about every thing , and my mind never stops working. Like I think of all the things that need done over and over again in my head and never get anything done that I was thinking. I do have a hard time remembering things If I don’t write them down I will forget, or if someone tells me something like directions or instructions for something I have to ask a couple of more times before I get it.(or just write it down and keep going over it ) Have other symptoms but I will start here

My husband will say to me cant you finish one thing before starting something new or how may times do I have to tell you something before I get it, It does really upset him . But he has been telling me that for years, we have been married for 14 years. (I just thought that’s me and it makes me made when I cant get anything done or to look nice)

Well this all started when my friend was diagnosed with ADD, so I wanted to check into it and see what was going on with her. Well when I was reading all the stuff of adult ADD That all sounded like me, and I thought it was when you where hyper . Cuz I am not hyper, I just thought I was just a worry wort , just cant get thing done like other people, and maybe had a learning disability , and Just cant remember things. That’s me and never thought it could be something else like medical condition ,I still could be wrong. I have been this way my hole life, So what do you think??? I know I will have to go to the doctors, But I don’t have a doctor , I only go when sick so it has been years. Or what kind of dr to go to also no health ins.

Well I will keep on talking so I better quiet before I drive you crazy and thank you for listening to me .
(I took the quiz :o and said I scored 96????????? I know they said it doesnt mean a thing but got me thinking again)

Take care Dawn

First, I'm sure you're aware that nobody will "diagnose" you here.

The symptoms you describe are certainly symptoms of ADD, but they are also symptoms of several other disorders including just normal stress. In particular, though, the list you give is most of the overlap of ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. Because it can be dangerous for a bipolar to take a stimulant without a mood stablizer, you'll want to be sure.

Most psychiatrists have a set rate for initial visits (usually between $200 & $400 and a full hour of time) and another for medication management visits (anywhere from $70 to $200 for a 15 minute visit).

The medications themselves are not cheap, but most of the instant release versions are available in generic for much more reasonable prices. Regular Adderall XR, for example, runs about $120-$240 per month while the same dosage in a generic form of IR will cost $30-$40 per month.

I've found that most general practitioners are not comfortable diagnosing ADHD, so I'd recommend going straight to a psychiatrist.

Good luck!

Ditto on barbyma.

A good shrink can give tremendous value even at 4 bills an hour. The problem I had and many others have had is finding a good shrink. My family doctor could not recommend a shrink - against HMO rules. I called the HMO and they sent me a list to chose from. I picked the closest. He SUCKED. I visited a psychologist that I causually knew socially and he recommended the "MAN." If you can get someone in the biz to make a recommendation you stand your best chance. Know any RNs? I swear they know everything.

What is overlap of ADHD ???? I am not sure if this is what I have and I really dont like going to the dr. But if I would have this this would explain why I have a hard time with things nice I have been a child. Like I said I had alot of the symtoms on add but not the hyper ones,I just wanted to get some advice . Thanks again for all your help

I personally do not need a Dr to tell me anything. (can you tell I dont like shrinks?) I was diagnosed in school as a kid 30+ years ago. I have read a lot and I KNOW my brain is wired wrong, no ifs ands or buts about it. Everyone who knows me thinks that I am the ADD poster boy. My suggestiion is to read "Driven to Distration" and or spend some time reading on int internet (like this). No one knows yourself like YOU do. That's just my opinion

Bipolar looks a lot like ADHD, but it's also seen together a LOT.

Thanks again for all your help.
