For those of you that have trouble eating/remembering to eat/etc on Adderall, how do you deal with this?

When I started it I mostly made myself eat something before I took each dose adn when the second wore off but found myself practically gagging it down. Often a couple hours after a dose I would become suddenly unbelievable nauseatingly hungry. This drove me to convenience food and fast food to get something in me quickly before I my tummy got too bad and I couldn't eat.

Now that I've evened out more I'm doing much better. I eat breakfast before taking my first dose. I *try* to have lunch before the second but often find that to be difficult. I've resorted keeping high protien meal replacement shakes around because I can gag one of those down when I just can't bring myself to eat.
I'm glad I don't constantly have the munchies anymore but I do need to ba able to eat regularly (more regularly than 3x a day usually) in order to really feel good. I'm also trying to lose weight and while one would think that eating less would help that, it doesn't for me. I need to be able to get healthy food in my system 4-5x a day to have enough energy and to lose weight.

Any suggestions?

Another issue is with going to the gym and the like. I try to go in the morning and take my first dose afterward. That works well when I can get up but that's not always the case and soon I'll have early classes Mon-Thurs so it won't really be an option.
Adderall doesn't raise my heartrate normally, even when I'm being more active than usual, but it does seem to allow it to get up faster if I climb a lot of stairs or try to work out. When I work out (before Adderall) I go for endurance over intensity because I'm not fond of the feeling of my heart rate being that elevated. I'm not sure how to get my school, gym, and med schedules to live in harmony.

I just started Adderall and I am having the same eating problem. I used to have the munchies CONSTANTLY and get headaches when I didn't eat every 3 hours. Now I'm never hungry and I don't get the headaches. But I've quickly found that I will eventually feel like crap if I don't eat and drink enough!

I drink at least one shake a day I make in a blender consisting of orange juice (or soy milk if its before I take the Adderall because of the citric acid and ect), 23 grams of protein, a half a cup of outmeal, and sometimes a handful of frozen fruit. I have found that adding carbs to my protein shake helps me feel better longer. Maybe you could try that sometime. If you blend it enough you can barely taste the oatmeal. I don't even like oatmeal but its decent in a shake. Unless you are drinking the pre-mixed shakes then I guess you can't. In that case try making your own! You will save a ton of money and its not as messy as it sounds. But buy the frozen fruit in bulk if you can. It can be expensive. Also oranges are easy to eat when its hard to get anything down if I peel it and eat it like an apple. But again that shouldn't be done until the evening or well after your dose.

That's all I can add for now. Anybody else know of any snacks that are easy to down? Peanut butter and honey sandwiches used to be my favorite to eat before working out because they give me food energy until the bitter end but its really hard to finish one of those nowdays!

I added 3 EAS Myolplex shakes to my diet after starting Adderall. I still have the lack of hunger - but the added 900 calories keeps me from losing any more weight. The extra protein burns slowly throughout the day keeping my energy levels even.

I'm on my 3rd month of shakes and never have felt better. I work out and exercise a lot.

If you get headaches if you do not eat every few hours, or feel weak, you may want to look into getting tested for hypoglycemia. It is a fairly common condition in the United States.

As a biathlete and bodybuilder, I was VERY worried at first with the possible weight loss due to the Adderall. I also always did (before and during adderall) my best to eat 5-6 meals per day consisting of around 500 total carbs and around 200 total grams of protein. I've lost weight, but not strength. I think I've just lost fat, but very little muscle.

The intensity and focus of my workouts have increased also, I still sometimes struggle to eat though. But gotta do it...

I sure hope that's not the case for me. According to some machine they've got at the gym, i've only packing 9% body fat (16lbs). I think if I lost any more weight i'd blow away into the wind.

I have lost fat but not too much muscle which is nice, but I haven't had the least bit urge to box anymore :(

Maybe I need more carbs and calories. I'll look into the Myoplex shakes.

I started out taking adderall. I never felt hungry, etc.

I started eating 6-8 smaller, more nutritious meals throughout the day, drank more water, and exercised a few times a week.

I lost weight, but considering I had been overweight and depressed when I started, and lost it over time with supervision from a doctor and trainer, I wasn't concerned.

I have maintained these habits, for the most part, since switching to concerta several years ago.

I had trouble remembering to eat even before I started Adderall. My doctor weighs me at each visit and recently I had lost 5 lbs in a month or so his scale says anyway. He almost took me off the Adderall because of it. He thinks I'm underweight to begin with but I told him the weight loss was probably due to stress and to give me a month to put it back on. I ate like crazy and wore my heaviest shoes when I went to my next appt and I gained 4 of the 5 back and he was happy. I have hypoglycemia so my husband reminds me to eat or comes home with food and hands it to me. I take my Adderall in the morning before the gym and have no problem. I don't do any cardio, just weight training so I don't know if that would make a difference. For breakfast I eat a Balance Energy Bar. The 30/30/30 type. I have to force it down most of the time. I have noticed that since I began taking Adderall I get stuck on one certain kind of food and that's the only kind I will eat for a week or two. When I'm not hungry but know I need to eat so I don't get sick, I usually eat things like noodles, crackers, or peanut butter on toast.

I have been on adderall xr for almost a month now and it has definitely affected my appetite. I was never one to eat breakfast or really lunch for that matter even though I usually made a point to eat lunch and then later dinner. Now I do not get hungry nearly as much and even when lunch and dinnertime rolls around, I do not get those physical signs of hunger that others usually get. Just to make sure I am getting nourishment I tend to make my dinner meal the largest and most complete meal of the day.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Another thing I have noticed is my portion sizes are a lot smaller. There is way more food left on my plate when I do eat now than before.

While I do try to take note of the number and amount of times I eat, at this point I am not too worried. I could stand to loose a few pounds anyway. I just continue monitor my eating and if I think it is really getting out of hand I will bring it up with my doc.

I have been on Adderall for about 4 months. Started out with 10mg twice a day and now up to 30mg in the morning and 20mg in the afternoon. I have lost 30 lbs. I'm never hungry! I will go a day and a half and relize i have not ate. If i do eat its like 5 or 6 bites. I am hypoglacimic(spelling?) and i shake real bad because of it. I can't bend over without seeing stars and being light headed. My clients ( i cut hair) have started to notice this. I dont want to quit the meds b/c im afraid the weight will pile back on.

wblank,

Do your hands shake all of the time or just when your sugar is low? Mine shake all the time but really bad when my sugar is low. It's so embarrassing. People always think I'm nervous. If I hold a piece of paper in my hand you can see it move. I hate it so much.
