View Full Version : organization
andrea76 03-12-03, 06:47 PM hello everyone,
i'm relatively new,
anyone wants to hear my story, just ask.
I do have a thought i wouldn't mind hearing some imput about,
Organization.
Has anyone tried to tackle it!?
i'm not necessarily disorganized, but i do like to have thoughts on how to.
see, okay here's my story, didn't think i'd say but wtf eh?!
i was diagnosed when i was 6, i've been on drugs since i was 8 and i'm 26 now,
i've done pretty well for myself i'd say (another story there but only if oyu want to hear it); you know without being monitored, or coached ( i had a horrid gp, she should have been a pusher).
that said,
organization has been at the core of my own coping mechanism/technique,
however, i've recently moved into my own place,
and i still have loose ends to take care of,
and i was wondering if there are any other brothers and sisters out there whohave had a success story or at least a story, about the best way to stay organized.
let me know,
here or here: andreasmith762@hotmail.com
Yes...Organization(or lack there of) is one of my main weakenesses. I think the trick is finding something that works and sticking to it.
Yes, I know...easier said tha done..loo
A book that I have found very helpful is ADD Friendly Ways to Organize You Life by Judith Kolberg, Kathleen Nadeau .

andrea76 03-12-03, 07:04 PM i've been trying to find that book! no one sells it,
grumpy grumpy grumpy.
thanks for the info
Ya I haven't been to impressed with the selection of AD/HD related books at the local bookstores. I'm pretty sure it's availible online at both Amazon & BN. There are some AD/HD related books that I probably should have checked out of the library instead of buying but this one is definitely a keeper....
andrea76 03-12-03, 07:13 PM what bothers me about the published media, is when authors express how adder's are flawed, "they" will always be disorganized, "they"want to organize; but "they" fail,
Excuse me, but i've been doing pretty well for myself,
i'm a pretty flawed person, but i'm an organized person,
I'm a Slob, but i'm organized. . . . and when your non-add sister is perfect and your non-add mother is a slob and completely disorganized,
being an organized slob who happens to have add is okay with me.
i'm proud of my self.
how about you?
healthwiz 03-26-03, 12:25 AM Any advice on organizing is appreciated. My main problem or focus now is the clutter. To many papers. Way too many. I feel like I can not progress forward because I'm still swiming in old paperwork messes. Some of them are "booby-trapped" as they might have a bill that is due or a traffic fine, or something that is urgent and sunk deep and hidden in the piles. So help in this area is one that I can really use.
SandiRella 03-26-03, 08:50 AM I find that concentrating on one area---one teen tiny area, helps me to get at least something done. Maybe one shelf on my desk. And then maybe the next one. Sounds painfully slow, but some progress is better than none at all. Papers are a big consumer of energy and time--junk mail gets thrown in the trash immediately. Envelopes I don't use for bills (since I pay online) are thrown out. Hmmm....but then there's inevitably lots of newspaper clippings or coupons I "might" use one day. It's a continual challenge....good luck!
andrea76 03-26-03, 08:51 AM in my personal experience, and i can be a victim to paper clutter as well, i find that if you sit down put on your favourite music; with your "one pile" in front of you, create thre piles.
Keep
Throw
Maybe (when you cannot decide in less than a minute)
immediately throw out the throw pile, then do it all again starting with the maybe pile. When your left with nothing but keepers, then create categories for each type of "paper".

The 3 pile method has been simpler for me. I tend to complicate these efforts, and keeping it simple seems better, at least for me. I tried it the last few days, and it is easier to think of one pile, then 3 piles, then file.
Thanks
Jon
andrea76 04-03-03, 03:30 PM i'm glad it's working for you.
i use the same method for every thing.
Yep...the three-pile method has worked for me as well, with one twist: I delegate most of the bill-paying responsibilities to my wife, so the third pile is on HER desk...lol. I have 2 piles on my desk...and when they get too high (things start falling off) I file, re-pile or shred.
File - Those items that I need to keep for recordkeeping purposes
Re-Pile - Those items that still require attention, or are needed in the immediate future.
Shred - All other documents that don't fall into the other 2 categories.
andrea76 04-03-03, 05:05 PM it's funny you say that BiG,
i like to do the "book keeping" so i am the third pile
:eek:You mean I have to be organized..oh no..now what am I gonna do..lmbo.
Well I too do the three pile thing..at least I try to keep up with it. My desk..I think it is oak..not sure haven't seen it in awhile. (Grins)
It's strange but at work, (I used to work in clearical) I can have the most tiddy office around. But at home, forget about it. But then at home I have lots of help in the mess making. LOL..with nightbreed and boogie, I'll never get totaly organized.
andrea76 04-03-03, 06:38 PM i'm the same way,
my office at work is immaculate, b/c i can't stand to work (or study) in a mess, b/c i can't concentrate..
i'm in the process of organizing my den so that we can actually use it,
and the sad thing is, it's not b/c we're messy (okay we're slobs) but we don't have the right storage furniture. . . .
so that's my sad little goal,
furniture + elbow grease + three pile method = a place for me to go back to school.
misclee 06-01-03, 08:47 AM Oh, this is a horrible weakness for me. I can relate to all of this just too TOO much. I was using Flylady.org which is very helpful, but I got overwhelmed by all the daily e-mails and, as I always do, did well in the beginning but then fell off the wagon:) If anyone is interested in the site, though, I think it can be VERY helpful if you are able to stick to it.
joanrdtobe 06-01-03, 10:53 PM I too used flylady for a little while...but got totally freaked out with the daily e-mails and assignments....now I hate to admit it...but I guess my disorganization is not something I want to do anything about....I think I thrive on the chaos....UGH.....
andrea76 06-02-03, 08:52 AM the fly lady method is fine and dandy, and i'm found a way to incoorporate her "teachings" but i tend to do it my way.
wouldn't mind if the emails were different from time to time,
egh whatcha gonna do
jimmmaaa 06-02-03, 12:06 PM I have a lot of piles of paper around my desk at work. I try to keep right around my computer clear. If I can get a document in electronic format that is my preference. I think my computer is much more organized than my actual desk. But the paper piles can be oppressive at times. I am not very good at throwing things away, you never know when you might need something. I have a poem about the clutter on the poems section called "Paralyzed by Clutter" that describes how I feel on this.
