I first noticed that I had ADHD some time ago, but finally decided to do something about it. My ADHD was affecting my job proficiency so I decided to self medicate with Ritalin after careful research and analysis. The Ritalin worked pretty good as it restored allot of my focus,so I am sure that I have ADHD. However, the Ritalin does not last long enough and I had to switch jobs before I was prescribed Adderall, which I heard was far superior to Ritalin. The new doctor was going to prescribe Strattera but I objected after reading about the dismal performance of Strattera in studies. In any case now I have to struggle through another couple of weeks of up and down focus before I can try Adderall despite originally asking for Adderall in the first place. Sometimes I think doctors feel that we are still living in the pre-internet era. If it were not for some of the posts found in this forum I may have struggled longer without relief.

I'm nearly in the same boat you are! Although I lurk around ALL the medication boards for ADD, I do it to learn; Yeah, I was prescribed a medication that really isn't popular, or is now not popular due to it's effectiveness and safety. So when I was prescribed it, I was bummed out too. I suppose we both can only wait after our 30 day trials then bring up a possible medication switch with our doctors.

Just tell your damn Doc which pill you fond MORE effective, allowing you to manage better.

Ritalin is usually the first line of treatment.
