Hi All,

I have been away and here for quite a while. I sold my car recently because I am leaving my host continent Europe (12+ years) and going back home. I wanted to take my car with, a Land Rover Defender 90. I love her dearly and now she is gone. Corny and stupid I guess. After all it’s only a car... metal and rubber.

Okay. The question I ask you (two questions) is this.

1. When was the last time you drove in a car you owned and,
2. More importantly, how long have you been able to manage without driving in a car. Public transport excluded.

Whats the object? It feels good not to own or make use of a car that only adds to the demise of our planet.

My answer is 3 days for both.

The last time I really got by without a car I was probably 17, a senior in high school, which was only two blocks from my home... easy walking distance.

When I was 22, newly married and already pregnant, hubby and I had one car which he drove to work while I rode my bicycle to work and most other places. Small town, maybe a mile square. After that I did a lot of walking, pushing a stroller which is just as good for toting groceries or laundry as it is for toting a toddler who would rather walk anyway.

At this time I'm living in a suburb of Wichita and there isn't much in the way of affordable public transportation in the suburbs. I've gotten out of the practice of walking anywhere except to the row of mailboxes at the end of our street.

1) Today

2) I've never been able to manage without a car, no puplic trans. where I'm from first off. The other is I live to far to walk or ride a bike to any place, stores, school, Doctors and such.
