Since my dose was increased to 40xr my thinking is much clearer but I feel so tired most of the time. I have tried taking both first thing in the morning but by 2-3 pm I'm feel totally wiped out and need a nap. So then I tried the other way the doc suggested and took 20 first thing in the mornign and take the second one at noon. I still have that wiped out feeling through the afternoon but now I'm wide awake at midnight. I could probably make myself go to sleep if I laid down because I'm tired but I'm resistant for some reason.

I had that problem. I would take 30 mg XR in the morning, and sometime in the early afternoon I would just crash. My doc added 10 mg IR at 2 pm and now I don't have that problem.

When I was on XR I had the same problem for a while. I had a ridiculous varying response time to the XR, so I was put on XR and immediate release to be taken when I felt the XR wear off. Then, what would happen is the benefits of the adderall would wear off (I would no longer feel focused and the ADD would be kicking in) but the amphetamine would still be in my body keeping me awake regardless of the fact that I was tired. Switching off of XR worked for me, and perhaps this may be something you want to discuss with your doc. Good luck!

I sort of was switched off the xr inadvertently. it's called procrastinating filling the prescription and running out.lol Knowing I had a kind of back up with the regular release didn't help motivate me to go get it filled. The regular adderal definitely did not work as well for me.

I was really tired for the first couple of weeks I was on Adderall (like NEEDING to take a nap in the afternoon), then it went away. Maybe yours is just a temporary adjustment to the new dose?

Hi Boardabitz & All...

Sorry that the good results you've recieved from the 40mg are compromised by sleepy, apathetic feelings, Boardabitz. Your experience is a bummer and dose not bode well for me either!

I was shocked by how tired I felt shortly after taking Adderall 10mg IR for the first time 3 weeks ago. It put me to sleep. I take it only once per day which, I've learned here on the forum, is not the way to go. Results: Perhaps I'm a tiny bit more focused...maybe...however, could be it's just Wishful Thinking/Placebo Effect??? Regardless, it's nothing to get excited about. At my next appt I will get an increase and I'm praying that will work better.

Boardabitz; I saw a recent post by Bentbob re/ his MD prescribing Adderall & Ritalin in combination. Not sure about the reason for it but perhaps it's to counteract the sleepiness of the Adderall alone? Hope he posts his results in his thread. I'm new here so maybe you have heard about this combo before.

Addeline and B2B,

Hope you can find the right path for the max benefits and min unwanted effects. I am still on that path myself (but I believe that IR at the right dosages will work well). When I am at a therapeutic level, I am calm but not tired. I am open to suggestion (even suggestions from myself), which will allow me to decide if it appropriate to mow the lawn, eat, or try to get some sleep.

Although I do not feel particularly tired, if I look at the clock and decide it is a good time to go to sleep, I can do so easily. I have been an insomniac my whole life, so it is amazing that, when medicated, I can make a conscious decision to sleep and actually do so.

It seems to me that sleeping and tiredness vs. lethargy is a very individual response to medical treatment. I really hope you can find a medication treatment that gives you the results that you are hoping for. I see a lot of posts on dosage timing and alternate use of XR and IR. Maybe your doc will help you to experiment a little to see if you can find a solution there.

Best of luck!

I have never heard of combining those two before. It is so hard to get some doctors to consider experiementing like that. They act like you are just asking for more and more stimulants. I have been wondering about asking to have my wellbutrin started back up again.

I wouldn't describe my feelings as being apathetic. I'm just kicked in the b*tt tired. So far the best method has been to take the one dose first thing in the morning and then the second dose sometime just before noon. I found my alarm clock today so I'm going to try setting it everyday for the second dose.
