Is it just me, or have anyone else had this experience??

I usually get methylphenidate 10mg, always from the same pharmacy. I took 2 pills twice a day, so I was buying #120 pills a month.(no insurance) I asked my dr. if I could try going up to 20mg pills so I could cut down on the # of pills I buy and save some money. This time, I went to a different pharmacy close to school and they gave me methylin instead of the traditional methylphenidate. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! The methylin made me jittery, sweaty, my hands shake, and all-around just made me feel bad. Has this ever happened to anyone else?? Anyone know if it's the changing from 10mg to 20mg that isn't agreeing with me, or the fact that it's from a different pharmacutical company??

I believe that methlphenidate, Ritalin, Methlyn and a few others are all the same thing. Methlyn is just generic Ritalin. According to my psychologist it is usually slightly less potent than Ritalin. Methlphenidate is the basic drug -- the others are just the brand names. Shaking hands etc can be a sign of too much medication according to the packet of information that came with my daughter's prescription for Methlyn.

As little as two mg can make the difference between an effective and less effective dose. Although most doctors jump the prescription 10 mg at a time that can overshoot the mark. I'd contact my doctor and ask him how he'd like you to handle this right away. Overdoses of stimulents are hard on your body.

i haven't tried methylin, but i have a related question about your dosage. like you, i take four 10mg pills of methylphenidate each day, but i have to spread it out more evenly than 20mg twice a day, otherwise the peaks & valleys are too extreme. on 20mg, i get wired in 40 min, then really irritable 4-5 hours later. if i take 10mg every 3.5 hours, it's smoother, but i still notice the drop-off. i'm currently splitting the pills & taking 5mg every 2 hours. the effect is very even & i don't feel bad when it wears off at the end of the day.

how far apart do you take each 20mg dose? do you notice the peaks & valleys? i'm curious about how different people feel on the same meds.
