I used to take immediate release ritalin (methylphenildate) a long time ago, pretty high dosage, up until the first "school kids liked to take it to get high" fiasco. This prompted the extended release, then concerta releases. I've sinced switched to adderall immediate release (after trying extended release with limited results) with pretty good success. I've tried ritalian XR and concerta and they've both been miserable failures. Seems to me that perhaps my digestive system just doesn't allow for a very stable release of extended release pills, who knows.
So heres where this is going. I'd be curious to see if ritalin standard still would be as effective for me. My pdoc doesn't prescribe it to anyone under any circumstances anymore. I don't know of anyone who is on it, and I'm not too certain of anyone who does prescribe it. Is it really that much of a taboo? I guess its not that big of a deal because adderall is working well enough, I'd just like an alternative in case I would need it. My pdoc has always been liberal with prescribing meds and progressive, however this seems to be one that he has an iron resolve on. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
