View Full Version : water Tara 03-12-03, 07:56 PM I really think that getting in 8 glasses of water a day really helps with my AD/HD. healthwiz 03-16-03, 01:26 AM I have had a similar experience when drinking lots of water. But I got on the water kick with expensive water, with a 5-molecule formation, which was suppose to hydrate and clean cells better. Its so expensive though so I don't buy it anymre ($2 a bottle). I think part of the water effect is that hydration cleans the cells of toxins. I think the other part of when you drink lots of water, you are not drinking sugar laden or chemical laden colas, which may effect blood sugar levels, or if you drank diet colas, may have ingredients that may be bad for ADD. Hey, water...if it works well, why not? I think I might start drinking more of it now that you mentioned it. Andrew 04-23-03, 08:38 PM I've been trying to drink more water. My problem is, if I don't see it in front of me, I'll look for the coldest drink in the house. So now I try and always keep a bottle of water with me. joanrdtobe 04-23-03, 10:30 PM Agree 100% about the water...I've been trying to drink more especially with meds...and especially as dosages increase this is essential as the kidneys ultimately excrete what the body doesn't use and water certainly helps them do this....and thirst is not a determinant of body needing water....(in other words, you can be dehydrated and not be thirsty especially upon aging)....and I agree with Tara...the brain needs to be hydrated....and drinking water keeps us young looking.... Slowpoke 08-06-03, 10:59 PM What you can do is to take a bunch of the little bottles and put them in the freezer. You can buy bottle holders so you can keep it with you during the day. Or you can just try to remember to have the bottle with you. I got into this habit.. I bought a really nice nalgene coloured water bottle, and made iced tea the night before, and I kept it with me. My `rule` was that I had to drink it all. I got out of the habit when someone stole my waterbottle. I bought a new one, but it was when I was going through a really stressful time and didn`t have much energy to get much else going... and now it`s being used for my lucky bamboo. So, with summer being sunny and hot... I think I will buy a new one like my first one and try to drink more fluids again. Anyone up for the `challenge`? I`m going to try for a week... I did have juice crystals at work, and I will be taking more so I have something to drink. I also am thinking of buying a few bottles - one for work, one for home, and one to carry with me. I am forever forgetting them around b/c I have to remember to keep it with me. The other thing I find that helps is if I make the bottle a personal statement... I put stickers, keychains etc. on my last one so I could identify it easily at work, and it was great. The bright colours also make it easy to spot in a room at a glance (like my rainbow coloured cellphone!) Anyone else? Garry 08-07-03, 12:12 AM I agree with you all on this one, but with the stipulation as to the more water you drink the more you have to go to the little boys or girls room. Being that I don't have one of them built into my Big Truck I want you all to think about how difficult it is to park that thing on the freeway and find the nearest tree Grin joanrdtobe 08-07-03, 10:48 AM You do have my sympathy Garry....:) fasttalkingmom 08-12-03, 11:48 PM OMG Garry !!! I so understand :D I drink lots of water one hour before I go to work....lol.... johny 07-20-04, 11:50 AM I'm new to the forum, after doing some search I found this topic, yes I find drinking water useful a well and it helps me to concentrate but usually people with ADD find coffee very useful! Actually things like caffeine and tea make me worse! I can't focus at all after drinking 2 cups of tea and it in fact gets worse but drinking water often helps... now the question is what kind of ADD is it that becomes worse when drinking coffeine?! Anyone with a similar experience? MRB 07-26-04, 08:30 PM I'm new to the forum, after doing some search I found this topic, yes I find drinking water useful a well and it helps me to concentrate but usually people with ADD find coffee very useful! I can't focus at all after drinking 2 cups of tea and it in fact gets worse but drinking water often helps... now the question is what kind of ADD is it that becomes worse when drinking coffeine?! Anyone with a similar experience? Johnny, I've heard sometimes it can interfere with meds. Check in the "med thread". But you should actually be drinking even more water when you have a lot of caffeine. johny 07-27-04, 07:29 AM I strongly advice people who find water useful for their add but not tea or coffee, to think about TS or Tourette Syndrome .. the first thing that an add person finds to be useful for themselves is tea or coffee or such stimulant stuff .. water is good too because of it's general benefits but if stimulant stuff makes you worse perhaps your frontal lobe is not inactive thus stimulation makes it worse but the question is why should you have sympthoms similar to add people? Because TS has both the sympthoms of ADD and OCD and these two are opposite! one caused but hyperactivity of frontal lobe and the other by it's inactivity! so one cannot have both of them! TS is the bridge between these two and it is related to Basal Ganglia I think! Many TS people i believe are misdiagnosed with ADD.. paulbf 07-27-04, 01:26 PM Johny, I plugged this into google ["Basal Ganglia" site:brainplace.com] http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=%22Basal+Ganglia%22+site%3Abrainplace.com&btnG=Google+Search Hmm, lots of information... a bit too much for me at the moment. rerod 12-07-06, 08:30 PM I have always tried to drink plenty of water. And it does make me feel better. But Iv always wondered the effect fluoride , chlorine and soda ash etc etc has on the body and brain. I can understand chlorine use. But studies show that Fluoride does not prevent cavities. It may even cause dental fluorosis -- white spotted, yellow or brown stained and sometimes pitted teeth. From what I have read. A Reverse osmosis filters typically remove about 90% of the fluoride. And bottled water.. http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/bw/chap1.asp Anyway. Does anyone know if these additives in city water may have a effect on ADHD and ADD? And what filter system would remove these chemicals? Thanks tiggy100 12-09-06, 04:08 PM I too have found that drinking loads of water helps me although I am always tempted to go for tea and coffee for the caffiene. What I didn't realise was, that by drinking so little water, I thoought that I wasn't thirsty. Once I started to 'make' myself drink it (and I really had to force it down) I started to need it more. Someone told me that the more dehydrated you become, the less thirsty you feel? cms714 12-19-06, 12:37 PM I have been increasing my water intake lately and I must say that I agree. There is a noticeable difference. Kiisethwa 12-19-06, 01:37 PM Yeah, I drink a LOT of water, then I'm sent on a major accident or something. <great> Aizlyne 12-19-06, 03:44 PM I agree with drinking plenty of water, but if I may paraphrase the comedian, Lewis Black, "56 bottles of water a week? That's a %#$@& homework assignment." I say, drink when you're thirsty. Don't try and force yourself to drink that 8th bottle of water if you don't really need it. |
