I make a point to lie down with each of my children before bed and ask them about their day--name 3 good things, and 1 not so good thing. At that time before bed, I generally hear more than not much.

My oldest, ADHD, no problem.

The youngest has even started doing this and coming up with things he did he enjoyed that day.

My middle one has trouble putting words together and saying anything. I am lucky that he comes up with one.

He was extremely shy as a child. Late talker, but continuous. Hearing testing and visual testing done. Continuous increase of use of words with age.

He loves playing on his own. We literally have to push him out the door to play with others. He only talks when he has to. Otherwise, I can't count on conversation with him.

Teacher sends me a note saying she is noticing comprehension/reasoning issues. This is where we started to notice ADHD for the oldest problems. The middle child is not hyper by any means. But I am now wondering what is going on here.

The teacher gave me an example of oral questions and he has difficulty with answering any question and seemed to hesitate giving answers that were not correct. Now we are not so sure. We think there is something else going on here.

Help--ask away? I am not sure what I am seeing here.

Let me preface by saying that I'm absolutely no doctor, or professional in any way. This is just my opinion:p

This sounds more like it could be High Functioning Autism to me, and ADHD is very often seen with it, I believe it's as high as 90% of the time. The late talking, lack of words, shy child, wanting to play by himself, having to push him to socialize, all of those are huge red flags for possibly being on the spectrum some where.

If it were me, I would definitely have him evaluated, by a developmental pediatrician, child psychiatrist, or neuropsychologist.

Hope you find some answers, good luck :) .

I am thinking ADD not ADHD. I am thinking something is going on.

I would think AD/HD predominantly inattentive type... I mean I am hyperactive/impulsive type myself but the core problem ends up being inattention either way it manifests itself my brother has the inattentive type of AD/HD and I am the oldest with AD/HD and the youngest is "combined type" of AD/HD so we have all 3 in mine so maybe...

My little brother is 5 and he has Asperger's symdrome, which is a type of high functioning autism. He is fantastic playing alone but he doens't seem to know what to do with other kids. He can't seem to play with them, or he doens;t want to play. He tries to ignore them if he can. However, he is not shy at all. It's a miracle getting him to be quiet. However when you ask him a specific question, he rarely ever comes up with an answer. He can't seem to focus on anything on the spot. If he comes up with it himself he can go on forever. It sounds to me like he could have ADD or mayb he is just a shy kid. It's good that you spend a lot of time with each of your children, is he does have ADD he has supportive parents :)

I have been through the ringer recently. My oldest finding out he has ADHD. Figuring out DH and I have ADHD. My youngest, peanut allergy than 4 weeks later false positive-he is not! I am finding this freeing but there is so much info and so much to learn.

One day at a time. We will find the answers.

I will look into autism-high functioning. Keep your ideas coming!
