I was just wondering if anyone ever had an experience where their prescription to adderall or any other ADD drug has caused a drug test they took to show a false positive?
Has anyone who has taken adderall told their potential employer that they have a prescription for Adderall before they took a drug test? Just curious how people handled this situation.

I know that the tests that test for any type of amphetamine is supposed to detect only at levels to which a "speed freak" or major tolerance based on "script binges" or levels adjacent amphetamine-wise to the level in the clandestine preparations present in methamphetamine... crystal meth etc... doses like 500 mg to 1 g... I dont know because every job drug test I ever had (only at pre-employment times were they ever required) i took a few days off and it doesn't show up...
all 3 (maybe 4) times I've taken pre-employment drug screens, the lab has required a list of meds I was taking and the name of the prescribing physician. Wouldn't that take care of it?

yes but there can be a downside to that, there's a stigma that goes along with it... I also take dexedrine which is considered a more 'unacceptable' choice than adderall which is more mainstream and is considered to be less addictive. I know that dexedrine is scorned on... example is today for example... my doctor requested from the pharmacy for me to have the 5 mg gsk dexedrine for the daily dose (8 pills total) 240 per month and the pharmacist recommended 10 mg spansules and my doc went along with him. They tend to get a hard time. I may try 10 mg dextrostat for a month to see if that is any help... or the 'spansules' may even out alone.

This is what I'm talking about. The stigma. Employers who know you're taking some sort of stimulant might frown upon such knowledge. In cases where you have to give a list of prescriptions you're on, do employers get a chance to look at which prescriptions you're on? When I took a drug test when I went to apply for a job at Applebee's he didn't ask me if I was on any prescriptions before I swabbed my cheek in front of him. In order for him to know I would have to tell him.

hmmm, that Applebees test may have been illegal, then. There's a law called HIPPA, which involves specific regulations protecting medical privacy. It is my understanding that this law requires that drug testing of this nature be performed by a private lab, and that the lab cannot disclose issues of medication to the employer.
The employer is not supposed to conduct the drug test himself. If an employer asks you if you are taking medication, a good response would be "yes, I am taking prescription medication, but it is my understanding that this information is private and confidential, so it's none of your business."
i dont know if i can offer any help but for my school's nursing program you have to take a drug test every semester before u are able to do ur clinical rotations at the hospital. i have been on adderall throughout the program so far and i never had to inform my SCHOOL what meds i was on, but i DID get a doctors note for the adderall when i went to the medstop testing facility, which is not a private lab, but the one required by the school. im not sure if the adderall would have even shown up on my results but i had no problem being accepted into the program either way. and if you have some sort of issue to where u can't get a note, stop taking ur med 3-4 days before the test if u r really worried, it will usually be out of ur system by then or very trace amounts.:)
