View Full Version : First days of medication - BIG QUESTION (exams)

i'm on dexamphetamine (generic 5mg Australian) for 7 days now and it feels great. I have been able to do all the things I always wanted to do (and yes - that includes homework and household stuff) and feel really motivated and full of energy. I still have some trouble figuring the right dose out (doctor suggested 10mg twice a day - not sure if that is optimal) and have some side effects that bother me, but overall my life really has improved.

Now the problem: My final exams start on friday and i really (i mean REALLY - no second chance) have to pass them. Thanks to the medication i was able to study every day for several hours and even memorize the stuff. That feels really good. However, I don't know if I should take the meds during my exams. I have gotten through school and most of university without medication (I didn't live up to my potential, but i did well) and in exams I had no major problems.

I had sometimes some issues with finishing within the time limit or concentration, but these were not severe (i think that the excitement kept my mind on focus). What I always had trouble with, was remembering the stuff that was supposed to be in my head (but wasn't). I hope that that is fixed now - I spend definitely more time studying and I'm more organised and motivated when studying.

What I'm now worried about is that I'm not sure if I'll be able to get all my thoughts written down in the quality I'm used to. That was always my big strength - construction and presentation of logical arguments, even structure (when under pressure). I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this under medication - I haven't written an academic paper since I started medication and my personal emails are unorganised at the moment (due to the amount of emotions that now break free). Another thing that I also noticed is, that my reading speed decreased (with increased accuracy) - I was used to process a lot of information in a short time, not sure if I'm able to do this now.

I have thought about doing a test exam with and without meds, but I don't have enough time to do that.

So, what would you do?

Thx in advance
