all of them except the nubers and colors one. People get so aggrivated with me when I ask them to repeat themselves even though they said whatever they said perfectly clear but then I usually get it before they really have a chance to finnish and then they tell me,,, "i thought you didn't hear what I said?"

Tracy..."Draven, gee, have you had a hair cut, it looks lovely?"
Draven.."pardon???"
Tracy..."Draven, have you....then Draven interrupts "oh, yes, do you like it?"
and they are like..huh.."why did you say pardon, if you heard me"???:faint: :faint:
By the time they are halfway repeating the question, it has sunk in, and you have answered the original question......interrupting in the process..LOL
...I do that a lot too :eyebrow: It's a little scenario I got in my head after your post :p
WesleyT 06-21-06, 09:18 AM Pretty much all of them..but I am not sure what you mean about the numbers and colour:faint:there was a topic about it once, like i allways had the impression number 7 is purple:eyebrow:
Crazy~Feet 06-21-06, 09:38 AM there was a topic about it once, like i allways had the impression number 7 is purple:eyebrow:That must be what the books all mean about "inventing a filing system that makes sense to you"!
Cartoon lightbulb moment!
I have not managed this yet myself? Seems to me you are halfway there having colors for numbers.
Welcome to group Wesley!
Squirrel 06-21-06, 10:02 AM Associating colours with numbers could well be synaethesia. There's a test here, but I didn't have the patience to go through it, seeing as I don't see coloured numbers: Click (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/derek_prog_summary.shtml)
Tracy that is pretty much how it goes lol. My ex husband use to get so mad at me. He said that besides the fact that he always felt like I wasn't really listening to him,,,, I also never let him finnish everyother sentence lol
The synaethesia thing reminds me of a girl I knew in high school that i absolutly adored. She was so diffrent from everyone else and loved it. She was a dwarf but that was not what made her so diffrent,,,,, she was very very eccentric. Her poetry would be classified somewhere between Alice in Wonderland and The Matrix, her dress was very 60's with a splash of Rave (before rave became popular and before the 60's style came back). She was so unlike anyone I had or ever will meet and she use to chew the same kind of gum everyday and would tell me she loved it because it tasted like blue. Now I of course just thought the tasting color thing had to do with her personality but after reading that link I kind of get it now lol. Only took me 15 years lol
Had another friend that compaired her life to living in a pink and white light socket but I think she had just done too many drugs at that point lol

The ones that happen to me ive put in bold :)
Matt S. 06-21-06, 06:41 PM It's terrible with me and my 25 thoughts per 30 second mind... I get that so badly it is terrible... Dexedrine seems to knock them down to about 7 or 8 but sometimes it seems like how did I get so lost.... or running into a telephone pole walking down the street, listening to a mp3 player (or cell phone) and seeing it but thinking about 15 things at once...
Oh my goodness!!!! listening to the same song over and over until I am sick of it .. I did that with every song I liked
Looking at people while they were talking to me and not understand a word they were saying YES again, I could never understand why that was happening to me.
I also always got lost in buildings ( until I went on adderall), and lastly the only way I knew right from left is because I wear a ring on my right finger.. pretty bad right! people used to laugh at me because I did not know right from left.
. Finally others with the same symptoms I have had my whole life. I finally got diagnosed one month ago because my grandson was diagnosed and all his symptoms sound so familar because I have had them all my life.* ( sorry don't understand about numbering the colors )
Wesley;
The first two sound a little bit more like OCD than adhd. The last three
do seem a bit like something I might do when I'm a bit scattered.
ME :D

Lunacie 09-16-06, 09:06 PM The thing with numbers looking like colors, or colors being different shapes, or shapes having different flavors is called Synesthesia. I don't have that myself but I have a friend who does. PrimeTime on ABC did a story about this recently: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=2311762&page=1
I don't listen to the same song over and over, but if I can't remember all the words then I find myself singing it over and over - apparently searching for the rest of the song.
When I was younger I had to stop and think about which was right and which was left but not so much anymore (maybe because I've been taking supplements like fish oil?). A bigger problem for me is trying to give someone directions and always saying to go south when I mean north or go east when I mean west. I know what I mean and which direction is which but they just come out of my mouth all backwards.
And all of your other things too. I don't think the synesthesia thing is AD/HD related but the rest seem to be common problems for us.

sigh, i wish they diagnosed me correctly, then i would have got medication
could the Synesthesia thing have anything to do with me not getting diagnosed?
i had to remember a series of words, but i have this trick to put a picture of in my mind with most thing in it
example --> sofa, chair, table etc i picture a living room, and when they ask me this words again i just look around in this living room and remember them
are there other adders that do this??

My goodness. This perfectly describes my approach to conversations. Ask my fiancee, she'll tell you. It's a little joke between us.

Yes, kinda, yes, yes and yes!
I also associate the number 7 with purple but that's from the 7 train that goes from Manhattan to Shea Stadium in Queens. (Go Mets!)
And I can really relate to the conversation that Tracy described. It's like the "Huh" part comes out automatically and then a second later it registers in my head what I just heard.
It really annoys other people when I listen to a song over and over, but I'm busy trying to add the lyrics to the vast collection in my head taking up the space that used to be occupied by my education. :D

Along the lines of getting lost in buildings, I have a tough time finding my car in parking lots, even if i've only been parked for a short time, lol. Also, if people provide verbal directions that involve more than three turns (left, then right, etc.), I ALWAYS write them down, as anything past three in this case will be hopelessely forgotten. I have learned over time that I need "landmarks" and I need to make a concerted effort to "pay attention" to them in order to remember how I arrived somewhere. This not only helps me find a place again, but also helps me figure out how to do the directions in reverse.
In regards to music, I notice there are specific beats/tempo that are particularly appealing to me and I can listen to those songs over and over. Songs that have a tempo that I don't prefer are those that I avoid and I attribute that to a difficulty with sensory integration.

I need landmarks or streetnames.... if you start to tell me how many traffic lights I have to go through before I get to the street... my eyes glaze over and I have trouble following the rest of the directions. Heh... Most of the time I'll make the first turn in the directions and then pull over at a gas station to ask for directions... then make the next one or two turns... and pull over again. If there isn't a place to ask... I usually end up being late because I have to drive around hoping something sparks a memory:confused:.
Bobthebuilder 10-28-09, 09:02 PM Interesting that This synesthesia crap is mentioned in these forums...
My Roommate revealed to us that he associates number and letters with genders and minor personality traits. Its called OLP and is a form of synesthesia. really baffles me.
I'm also quite sure he has ADD...definitely some OCD behaviors. although I don't like to label others.
Edit:
Whoops I just brought a 3 year old thread alive... My bad LOL
Tony444 10-29-09, 08:11 AM You plonker! :P
Well may aswell make use of it now, do any of you have a hard time paying attention to lyrics in music, I find even when I really try and concentrate half the time the lyrics just dont sink in to my head.

My goodness! I didn't realize I'd been a member here for that long.
Why did you call it snyesthesia "crap"?
Bobthebuilder 10-29-09, 12:15 PM I have no idea lol. It was a casual 'crap'. Its a neat thing to have, no negative side effects and its interesting to me. I guess its kinda hard for me to believe it exists? lol even though it clearly does.... Its still mumbo jumbo crazy talk in my eyes.

^What the crap?!
Lunacie 10-29-09, 03:35 PM Yeah, I was getting kind of a mixed message there. It seems pretty freaky-deaky to me, but then I've had some things happen in my life that others would think are freaky-deaky and I know they are real.
