Im thinking about enlisting in the Navy or the Army. For the Navy im thinking about doing the seals by doing the BUD's challenge. and for the Army im considering the Rangers. Im going to study for the Asvab this summer and take it next year. I think this is a postive decsion that im making on my life I really need something thats going to help me and the military will. Ive been a screw up all my life and here's something that can finally get me straight. its going to take alot of hard work and I hope that I never give up. I really dont want the frustration to hit me during training.

Are you going to be all you can be and find our future in the Army?

Hey there G.Sanders!! I can sure identify with your feelings about wanting to join "the armed forces" in the hopes of being "whipped into shape."
I'm a 40-yr-old single mother, and a few years ago I remember telling my counselor that I needed to go into the Army or similar so that I could actually DO SOMETHING productive (or just live a SOMEWHAT normal life) because left to my own devices, I can just waste hours, days, weeks, months, YEARS OF MY LIFE just spacing out and puttering around - basically doing NOTHING!!!
My counselor replied, "Yes! But you just said to me at the beginning of our session how much you don't like anyone telling you what to do."
DAMN HIM!!!
I don't know, GS, I have no advice for you. Just make sure and really try to envision what it would be like to be there - think of the worst case scenario, too (like going to Iraq, etc. & bootcamp) and see if that seems like something that's worth enduring for your goal. If you're like me and just crave that STRUCTURE - but aren't really crazy about giving or receiving VIOLENCE - I believe that there are MANY OTHER PLACES where people like us can develop that same degree of structure.
Have you ever heard of Outward Bound?? It may be something that's expensive - but I'm sure there are many of things that don't cost alot (and, perhaps, are JOBS where you can earn money) and are very upbuilding and beneficial to all.
Keep us posted, either way. And whatever your choice, we're here to support you!!!
Sincerely,
Sue
