the stimulants have been proven to be less likely to cause mania than strattera even though in the past it was thought to be "dangerous" to use stimulants for adhd when bipolar is president... example I stayed up for a week on strattera contemplating calling the president and telling him how to do his job... okay most of the country would like to do that but I really believed that I was going to do that... dexedrine however slows me down and helps stabilize my mood.

As far as I know, these meds cannot bring out bipolar disorder in people who do not have the disorder. It is entirely possible that the hypomanic mode of bipolar could be mistaken for hyperactivity, and the depressive mode of bipolar for inattentiveness. Or it is also entirely possible for someone to have symptoms of both disorders.

Anyways, giving stimulants (or pseudostimulants like Strattera) to someone with bipolar disorder can certainly make those symptoms worse, although I've heard anecdotal reports that they can help if the person is also taking meds to manage theb ipolar symptoms (assuming that the person has ADHD symptoms as well). Good reason to always start out on a low dose.

i'm sure that stimulants such as adderall are not the best thing for bipolar. i'm not 100% but i do recall reading numerous times that this can aggravate symptoms. i could see it increasing aggressivenes.
i'm not a doc but you can find information about this stuff online.
but above all ask a psychiatrist.

my experience has been the other way around.... bipolar meds have messed with my ADD, nullifying the adderall and I am back to unable to concentrate and lost in details.
