ClarityWhere 06-24-06, 05:20 PM it has nothing whatsoever to do with ADD.
That's progress.
Actually, I'm not that certain that my boss will be able to convince the other managers to can me. Maybe I'll be able to string things along for a while. They have until the second week in July to dismiss me without grounds, and since there's strong legal and financial motivation for them to do so, all bets are off.
I'm proud to have out-performed a lot of linear thinkers in areas that are danger zones for us ADDers. Punctuality, appropriateness, dressing correctly, paperwork and so on. And I'm getting better and better.

However, your "Over the rainbow" location is what really caught my attention! Are you a native Kansas girl or something? :)
Peace,*~ §EEK ~*
ms_sunshine 06-24-06, 05:51 PM I'm confused. If you're getting there on time, dressed appropriately, getting your paperwork done as directed, and avoiding the traditional pitfalls...why on earth would they want to fire you? That all sounds like reasons to promote you, instead.
ClarityWhere 06-25-06, 05:40 PM §EEK, Thanks, yes, congratulations are in order! Who knew I'd ever get to the point where the classic ADD pitfalls were non-issues? Halleluja, or however you spell it! I'll PM you about location.

Did I mention that I put in a lot of extra time (being trained in technical stuff that's very good to know but not required) AND came across very well externally? One potential partner company was offended when I wasn't present for all the meetings. I was just sitting in, and the long-term employee in charge of the project was handling things just fine, but for some reason the visitors thought I was significantly higher-ranking. Ha, now it's sounding like I'm snotty enough to merit being fired ...
I was hired against my boss's will, and he never supported the project for which I was hired. If he were capable of managing the project to success at all, he'd have done it by now. He doesn't "get" it, nor will he ever. The support staff would have to make huge changes in order to get up to speed. Boss has taken my last round of reports, in which I conveyed constructive criticism from potential clients, as indication that the project itself can't ever be successful. Whatever. I'm guessing the company owner will call me this week (boss put me on non-voluntary paid vacation) and things could go either way. If they fire me right away, I'll get a small severance. The other extreme is that the owner agrees to let me run the project under supervision of another board member.
Oh, and I had a few co-workers and friends check my phrasing / translations of the constructive criticism I put in the reports, so I don't think it's ADD-style offensive bluntness getting me into trouble. I'm also pretty sure that my impatience with their pace of work is based on what I know needs to be done.
Where the ADD stuff is kicking in strong is in my search for something new. I've found a few companies where I can apply to do freelance work, and although I got my paperwork together over the weekend, I'm not being very focused about it. I'm also isolating myself socially, but then I've been doing that for a while now.

Who cares if you actually accomplish anything, as long as the forms are filled out, right?

Oh my goodness - I completely missed the irony in this!
CynicallyNaive 06-26-06, 05:16 PM I'm not even sure it was intended. Most likely my sarcastic self just read it into that post. :)
I brought some issues up during a program review meeting with the CTO. One of the VP's took it as a my personal attempt to dump on him, which wasn't the case. Within 6 weeks I was released by that VP for being 'inept'. Blindsided - totally. Noone ever had a conversation with me regarding that program review mtg either.
ClarityWhere 07-10-06, 10:28 AM Ah wow kvrrd, gotta love those hypersensitive veeps.
Turns out my boss had to eat mud, for now. Suddenly he has a brilliant idea (something I'd been fighting for since I started) he wants me to work on. =And= he wants me to play headhunter and find him a minion who'll do everything exactly as he wants it and basically replace me.
Guess the situation is not completely ADD-free though. The HR guy and the owner both addressed some of my "social issues" and "trouble fitting in." One example my boss had cited was a dinner. I'd gone straight from work, while the other women had gone home and changed and freshened up their makeup. (Um, hello - I was w-o-r-k-i-n-g and have a much higher position than the other women do. Plus, they work in jeans and sweatshirts, and I wear suits and heels, so I looked perfectly okay for dinner. But that's only ADD logic, doesn't count in the working world.) I left the dinner at 10pm, because I was exhausted and BORED out of my skull and had to start work at 5:40 the next morning. Was also REALLY tired of the anti-foreigner sentiments expressed as "humor". Neither the HR dude nor the owner were present at this dinner, but they both bought it as an example of my social incompetency. Another example was a trade show we attended ... there was a networking event one evening, and the boss only spoke with people he knew then insisted we LEAVE early so that our group could sit in the bar at the hotel. I said I'd be down in half an hour and went to my room, and after ten minutes the boss had the front desk keep calling me until I came down.
