Hey Movingshadow,

I've thought Austraila would be a good place to live also. I watched a TV show about a place on the southeastern shore where there was good surf and there was a place there were they had these bungalos for a real reasonable price.

Any of you Australians reading this surfers?

One good thing, medicine is cheap :-)My best friend just came back from visiting Australia and told me that you all eat a lot of pumpkin in Australia!

Here in the states about the only time we eat pumpkin is when it's in "Pumpkin Pie" Tracy!! LOL :D

Eating pumpkin any other way than in pie seems very odd to most of us here in the U.S.!

My friend told me that he ate pumpkin soup in Australia! Just the thought of that makes me wanna puke! LOL :D

What part of the beach are you at Tracy? Here are some pictures of Padre Island where I spent hundreds of hours in my youth.

ewww pumpkin.....

We eat lots of beef here, and lamb, and pork :D We love a good BBQ, and you'll rarely see any pumpkin on the bbq. Where there's a bbq there's beer too.

I'm not a big fan of kangaroo meat, it's pretty tough and bland. Crocodile was nice, kinda like chicken.

Hi all!!!!!

After my trip to OZ with 41 12-14 year old students and falling in love with the country and the education system, I am very seriously searching for a teaching or other type of position in education in Australia!!!!! Life is an adventure!

I love mashed pumpkin, qantas makes a superb one!

Any of you who have tips, suggestions, etc, please send my way. I have frequent flyer miles so can travel pretty cheap to get there for interviews. I will live almost anywhere! Loved the School of the Air.

PM me if you want any other info. I have registered with Jobaroo. If you know of other placement agencies or sources, or even know someone who knows someone-good on ya!

Off to work on my CV-are there differences in CV's and resumes between America and OZ?

Thanks for all your help! The future is out there, no worries!

Good on you. Go for it. Our family motto is "Live an Extraordinary Life" and I would say packing up to move to a different country is a good reflection of that. (you might lose points for "mashed pumpkin" though - yuck ;) )

Teaching is one of the Skilled Occupations in Demand and the Australian Government is running expos all over the world trying to attract migrants.

In terms of you wanting to work here what exactly are you wanting to do - work visa or migration? Where would you want to base yourself? That will affect what you can and can't do. It is often best to make a break, get the visas etc sorted and get out here to start job hunting.

I have come up with a few homework sites for you. You probably have already looked into them but I'm a bit of an organiser and living in the ACT I am fairly savy with the whole beaurocratic system. Anyway, here I go:

Dept of Immigration - http://www.diac.gov.au/ (http://www.diac.gov.au/)
Dept of Immigration Skilled Migration list -
http://www.diac.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/index.htm (http://www.diac.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/index.htm)
Teaching Australia - authority designated by Dept of Immigration to conduct skills assessments for the General Skilled Migration Program for teachers - http://www.teachingaustralia.edu.au/ta/go/home (http://www.teachingaustralia.edu.au/ta/go/home)

If you are wanting to teach in the public schools, each State has its own Dept of Education through which you apply for jobs or relief teaching : Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, ACT, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania. Google their sites for more information.

If you are wanting to teach in independant or private schools then there are so many options.

Each State has its own Catholic Education Office for jobs and relief teaching in the Catholic system eg http://www.ceo.cg.catholic.edu.au/

The weekend papers also advertise vacant teaching positions - Sydney Morning Herald, The Age (Melb), The Courier Mail (Brisbane) - check out the papers' websites and the large private school websites. My children have been accepted into a newly built junior school being added to the existing middle and high school. The school advertised on its website and over 100 applications from around the world were received for about 10 jobs starting next year.

I really like the International Baccalaureate curriculum and you can go to the IB website to find jobs available in schools teaching IB.

I work in recruitment and would be happy to have a look at your CV and provide some pointers, if you would like to PM me. Also PM me if you would like some more focussed information.

Good luck on the job hunting.

Shelley

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/quark

<dl><dt class="hwrd">Main Entry:</dt><dd class="hwrd">quark </dd><dt class="pron">Pronunciation:</dt><dd class="pron"> \ˈkwȯrk, ˈkwńrk\ </dd><dt class="func">Function:</dt><dd class="func">noun </dd><dt class="ety">Etymology:</dt><dd class="ety">coined by Murray Gell-Mann</dd><dt class="date">Date:</dt><dd class="date">1964</dd></dl> : any of several elementary particles that are postulated to come in pairs (as in the up and down varieties) of similar mass with one member having a charge of + and the other a charge of − and are held to make up hadrons

I bet that cleared things right up, now didn't it? :D Blame the entire thing on SB_UK.

I want to return and study the VET and TAFE systems and compare to US CTE and Coop Ed systems....and enjoy some brownies, greenies, coldies, and wines this time..... yep, really love my new career focus-whether in teaching or higher ed services... but OZ is a short term goal, gotta go back. If I teach, maybe be a worker visa casual teacher during the us summer.

I fell in love with the country-maybe not live there forever, but for a few years, I could do-and see what happens. Western OZ is working on its VET-TAFE programs-wonder if a yank could be hired to work with vocational programs?

mmmm....pumpkin! I haven't had pumpkin in ages!
Don't know too many people who actually eat it though. I'm a huge spinich fan too. That's one of the few things I can grow in my vegetable garden without killing it and everything tastes so much better when you grow it yourself.
