Hey People.

I am new here but I have had ADD forever. I have lived many years without treating my ADD.

I have smoked pot, unknowingly masking my ADD, I have drank, I had Ritalin as a kid, now I finally got up enough nerve to go get help.

The doctor gave me Provigil. It was not easy to get. Blue Cross put both me and my doctor through hell. Well, I can tell immediately that it helps me focus.

I drank a venti starbucks and took one (i only take half a pill) and I was speeding my *** off.

Anyway, I have had ADD issues my whole life. It has affected every aspect of my life and I always have thought that I was just crazy.

ADD has hindered my work and my relationships. What's a poor boy to do?

I love to party and I think ADD has something to do with that too.

Welcome . . .well partying in the sense of escaping the noise of ones own brain or to self medication I think ADDer are more prone than the general population, but also other "brian difference" or "disordered (what ever term is perfered) will probaly carry the same tendancies.

Things / changes I have noticed - I am quieter. The Mrs. says that 80% of my personality is gone. The kids say, what is wrong with me? I used to be joking around, happy and talkative.

I can focus on one thing without the wanton need for a distraction. I seem to fidget less. If I drink coffee with my medication, I am basically on speed. Also, Mrs. said I have less "outbursts"? whatever.

Only been taking for a week. We will see. First few times I took a full pill, I felt high and speedy, so I only munch a half at a time now.

Don't be afraid to try other stims, while Provigil is good for some people it did absolutely nothing for my brain. It sped me up terrible, but compared to other stims it was weak in the thinking department.

Provigil was horrible for me. Its actually a med for people with narcolepsy but they're starting to prescribe it for ADD also. I couldn't sleep for days and was an emotional wreck. I'm glad you're getting good results but its not for everyone.

provigil was worthless I respond best to dexedrine as a med and everyone has their med that will work best for them I didn't like Desoxyn which is stonger (methamphetamine) had a bad result from the recent 2 week trial and went back to dexedrine so do the trial and error deal

really provigil makes you quiet? i am currently allowed to take upto 200 mg's provigil havent used it but once (today) i will see how it goes but it really makes you quiet?! is it just your quiet all the time or only when your busy working, concentrating?

i jsut want to say i took my provigil today along with my adderall supply (10mg's) and guess what NO COMEDOWN! i lvoe it provigil illeminated my come down! i highly recommend this for people with bad comedowns

I was diag. with CFS years ago and put on Ritalin. We soon realized that the CFS and Depression was a result of ADD. It all became clear FINALLY. But after 31/2 years on Ritlin, (best years of my life I might add). It stop working. I was developing nothing but the bad side effects and hated it. My doc started adderall. I like to a degree, but I am so exhausted with it. Doc has changed my doses tons of times, and now has me on 20mg XR in am and short scting adderall 10mg 2 between 12-2 and 2 between 4-8. I have tried taking less. nothing seems to help. All I want to do is sleep. I was wondering if anyone takes provogil while taking a smaller dose of adderall? I have a hard time getting my doctor to hear me, and feel brushed aside alot. I am looking for another physiciatrist. But am Afraid I will be righ back in the same situation. I almost wish the Ritalin would have never worked. It kinda stinks to look back and know I had some help with the Ritalin and now I am right back to where I started.Oh I also take Lexapro, which has been fine.

They have studies that use Provigil to cure cocaine addiction. I used provigil in the past and it did indeed turn on the light in my head but the headaches were unbearable.

Have you thought of trying Focalin? From what I understand, it's very similar to Ritalin (analogous to the way Dexedrine and Adderall are related) but some people find it to have fewer side effects.

Thanks for all the feedback. No I have not tried Focalin, but my sister had mentioned trying that one. I think that might be my next step. Because I do not think I can afford the Provogil, even if the doc lets me try it. My Doctor never returns my calls. I have dealt with this for so long. The past 2 weeks I have called the Director of the office. My therapist has paged her and she does'nt call back. Finally today my therapist called the on-call doctor, and he called back. He then called me and he was wonderful. It was nice to have someone actually hear me. He called 3 pills of Provogil into Pharm. So I will see if that works.
