Before i go in and ask for a stim med, are there ones out there that have addiction and therefore withdrawl symptoms? I do not want to be physically addicted to anything, not that I have drug problems, I just dont want to be stuck on something for life or get sick if I miss a dose. What should i avoid, etc

You will get withdrawal symptoms when you take any medication chronically... period.

The withdrawals from stimulants are like withdrawals from other mind-drugs: if you have depression and take a med that helps alleviate it, and then abruptly discontinue you're going to suffer two things. First, is the reemergence of your core symptoms, and second, are the acute withdrawal effects which can be measured independantly. In other words, for awhile at least, you're worse after you abruptly stop than you were before you ever were treated.

If you go off of the meds the right way, by tapering down, the transition with be easier. You just have to deal with yourself off meds ;)

I went off of Cylert, (which seems to be less popular than others) and it was pretty minimal for me. The worst drug to get off of all time for me, was Effexor. I know some people won't necissarily agree, but, that's my experiance.:)

For me, going off effexor (twice) was just as terrible as any other drug... but no worse :)

Wow, you were lucky. Thank you for letting me know it is hard on most people. I have read some posts here about meds and herbal remedies where some people get really defensive and brutal about not agreeing. So, it's nice to finally say my experiance and have you be really nice. :D

I have never heard of withdrawal from stimulants that are prescribed for adhd. Don't they cycle out of your body within hours? I mean unless you are abusing them in some away that wasn't prescribed.

I have had to stop abrubtly before with stimulants and haven't noticed a thing other than it being like the days that I have fogotten a dose and I do extra ditzy things even more often.

Even with wellbutrin, I'm tired and that's it. That's even when I stop abruptly and not taper.

Now zoloft, celexa and effexor being a totally different story. I think effexor should be illegal. Anything that makes you that ill even when you taper it off can't be good for you.

My doctor also said that there is no withdrawal from stimulants because they rapidly leave your system, so you essentially go off of the medication every day at some point. They don't build up in your system, like for example; anti-depressants do, so quickly removing them should not cause withdrawal symptoms or side effects, beyond having to feel like yourself again. You withdrawal from anti-depressants because they build up in your system. Things that build up in the system before reaching therapeutic levels, are the things that you should also wean off of slowly. This isn't the case with stimulants according to my doctor.

There's a lot of neuroplastic and receptor sensitivity changes that occur with these drugs and they take time to revert. You definately have a "below baseline" performance for a couple weeks after amphetamine withdrawal.

I forgot about zoloft, that was bad, but effexor was SO bad, my mom tried to go off effexor and had to go back on, she couldn't handle the tremors and fuzziness, etc. I went off it twice, the second time was SO horrid that I made myself get off it anyway, I was very slowly weaned off it, and it was still like watching the scariest movie of all time.
I couldn't agree with you more, zoloft, celexa, and EFFEXOR should be ILLEGAL!!!!:faint:

is there some kind of research information that states that there is withdrawal side effects with stimulants?
