View Full Version : Supersonic hearing bunny0271 07-12-06, 01:56 AM Do you ever feel like you have supersonic hearing? I swear I can hear the ants marching across my neighbor's floor. :eyebrow: meadd823 07-12-06, 06:30 AM yep and what an annoying thing this can be tooooooooo. What bothers others hurts my ears! I wish I have a volume control some times because while good hearing can be an asset at times it can certainly become a deficit at others! bunny0271 07-12-06, 08:27 AM I feel the same way! A dog barking 5 blocks away pushes me over the edge, whereas no one else in my family can hear it. SnappyCloud 07-12-06, 08:52 AM Consider earplugs. I wear them sometimes and they act as "volume control." I can still hear loud convrsations, but at a more plesant volume. meadd823 07-13-06, 05:29 AM Consider earplugs I do in loud places like casinoes, but then I get to figeting with the bloomin ear plugs because the feeling. . .I simply wear head phones that cover my ears and play music. If that doesn't work I yell scream and pitch a fit-lol! fasttalkingmom 07-13-06, 08:44 AM Not me I wear and ankle bracelet that has tiny tiny bells on it. I can't hear them but my family can.... :D I read the other post and decided to add a but... :D Noises others make can distract me and drive me nuts. Like the people that live up stairs, their walking makes me look up. No one else hears them walking till I say something. ~boots~ 07-13-06, 09:19 AM basketball stadiums come to mind when I read this thread..I nead ear muffler things just to get in the stadium!!! Crazy~Feet 07-13-06, 10:22 AM Deliver me from NASCAR racing on TV  it will remove every thought from my head in an eyeblink...how can people enjoy that? They tell me the sound is not that loud :eyebrow: but its seriously annoying to me, even through closed doors. Nova 07-13-06, 02:04 PM I do in loud places like casinoes Casino sounds are THE worst for me !! I can only take so much of those, before I have to GET OUT !! And if you've ever been to Vegas- you can't even hide in the bathroom, to get away from those !!! Those machines are in there, too !!! My hearing is incredibly sensitive. Some sounds, that are repetitive, like the buzzing of flourescent lights, lawnmowers, garbage disposals- drive me bonkers. Forget about 'weather alerts'- I'll 'mute' those in a heartbeat- even if it means I'll deal with 'incliment weather', in my own way. Even whispering, by others, aggitates the hades, out of me. Nova Nova 07-13-06, 02:08 PM I made the stupid mistake, of actually owning tickets to NASCAR races....at the request of my ex husband. Never again. I'll go to a local drag race, now and again, but I do wear earplugs- and have no obligation to stay at them, now, if I can't take the noise, anymore. Nova bunny0271 07-13-06, 04:07 PM I can totally relate to the lawn mowers, garbage disposals, etc. We also have a ton of birds in our trees and even their chirping can push me over the edge! My husband sooo does not understand the who noise sensitivity with me. He just thinks I'm being ridiculous. TheMiNd 07-13-06, 04:35 PM I used to be able to hear the high pitched sound coming off a few TVs we owned, I don't think anyone else could. Crazy~Feet 07-13-06, 05:02 PM I used to be able to hear the high pitched sound coming off a few TVs we owned, I don't think anyone else could.I know a member here who can do that, MiNd! I hear several tones coming off a ceiling fan when its running, very distracting stuff. I have a rough time with earplugs, so many are made of latex  and make my ears weep and burn. Funny thing is I love the sound of Harleys, the louder the better. Go figure. I like them better when I am on them and feel the vibrations as well as hearing the motors though. Crazy (man I wish riding now!) stryder256 07-17-06, 09:24 AM I can't enjoy movie theaters. Even when people whisper, they might as well be screaming in my ears. My friend inevitably thinks I'm being dramatic, as he notices nothing. fasttalkingmom 07-17-06, 01:27 PM Deliver me from NASCAR racing on TV  it will remove every thought from my head in an eyeblink...how can people enjoy that? OMG thank you for this validation :) mom21wildboy 07-19-06, 03:09 AM Flourescent lights are the absolute worst for me. And we always seem to live in houses that have them. :faint: Our ceiling fans are pretty bad too. And don't get me started on the fridge!! I swear my husband doesn't hear any of it. One time I was shopping with my sister and we were in the shoe department and somewhere across the store there was a baby that was crying for like TEN minutes! I felt so bad for him/her. Finally the baby stopped and I said out loud "thank you" and my sister was like, "what are you talking about?" I think she thought I was crazy.:D But I guess she already thinks that. LOL!! :p So, ear plugs don't work for me either because I hate the way they feel. The only "white noise" I can tolerate is my humidifier so to sleep I have to have it on every night. I can't take the quiet because we all know it really isn't quiet.;) Crazy~Feet 07-19-06, 08:37 AM I think she thought I was crazy.:D But I guess she already thinks that. LOL!! :p So, ear plugs don't work for me either because I hate the way they feel. Glad I am not the only earplug-hater! And next time tell her you are not crazy, because now you know me :D. Never been to Vagas don't want to either, for the reason stated above! Deliver me from NASCAR racing on TV Ya know they got ear phones for television sound just like stereo, from what I have seen the cords are pretty long to! I have seen many a people who are hard of hearing at the nursing home wear them, bless who ever invented those things nothing like being hearing sinsative and working in a facility with two dozen deaf people each watching a different channel . . . .I couldn't help be hear all two dozen! . . . . . . . :faint: Crazy~Feet 07-19-06, 12:59 PM Ya know they got ear phones for television sound just like stereo, from what I have seen the cords are pretty long to! Not to convince my family of the fact that I am NOT NT and get them to face that they are ND and need to keep track of those headphones themselves instead of relying on me all the freakin' time :faint:. I hear all 2 dozen like you mentioned in stores and stuff, I dunno how ya do it at your job girl~! Bless those headphones for me too ok? Crazy (cranky cuz the forum is malfunctioning) sosninity 07-20-06, 12:29 AM I am so glad that the family of kangaroos moved out of the upstairs appartment and were replaced with an only-1-minute-before-going-to-work tap dancer. But even worse than supersonic hearing (my kids' nickname for me when they all still lived at home was "What's That Noise?"), is supersensitive smelling. Fragrances actually hurt the inside of my nose. sosninity 07-20-06, 12:35 AM *%$#@!*%$^! double post lil lion 816 07-20-06, 03:12 AM I used to be able to hear the high pitched sound coming off a few TVs we owned, I don't think anyone else could. I'm not diagnosed with ADD, but I've stated in other posts that I have certain...characteristics that I share with ADDers. One of these is "supersonic hearing". I can hear something two rooms away and if it's something on the TV driving me nutz and that no one else hears or pays attention to...it can be irritating and nerve-wracking to say the least. And I thought that *everyone* could hear that high pitched sound coming from the TV! :eyebrow: The sound of fluorescent lights doesn't bother me as much, but after a while if I'm exposed to them in a room with several ceiling-installed features, I can get a headache and become somewhat disoriented from the eye-searing light they can produce (in my opinion). |
