I have a few questions so don't lose ur concentration if i rattle on lol. :D
After 1 1/2yrs on adderall (which i absolutely loved in the beginning) starting w/30mg XR to 60mgXR to 90mg regular adderall, i went to the doc because i felt i had built a tolerance. i was drowsy, unmotivated, unable to concentrate for too long, and irritable. however my doc said i had developed "tachyphylaxis", which she says is when the receptors simply stop responding to the drug, rather than tolerance. im not quite sure what the real difference is because don't u build up a tolerance as they keep needing to up the dose, until it just doesnt work anymore????
So she tried ritalin er 80mg which i stopped after one day because it made me so nauseaus, irritable, sleepy, and gave me a headache. today i just started focalin 80mg which doesn't have those nasty side effects of ritalin, but i still am unmotivated. so if my neuroreceptors are no longer responding to the adderall, wouldn't they also not respond to similar drugs?
Also, if i were to stop taking everything (which will suck big time with a massive "come down") for awhile, and were to go back to the adderall that i started with, would it be like completely starting over, or would i build a tolerance much quicker, OR would i simply still not respond to it? I was functioning the best when i initally started adderall, that uppity, hyper focused frame of mind allowed me to totally focus in class, complete ALL assignments in record time, improved my grades and work ethic, and boosted my self confidence. I'm really hoping to find a solution that places me back to how i was then... not for the "high" feeling but because my last year of nsg school is coming up next month and i can't afford to fail out like i did pre-diagnosis. :o
one last question... considering all that i've said, should i consider trying to talk to my doc about desoxyn or no?
If anyone has been in a similar situation and could offer any advice that would be great, thank u. :)
