Does anyone here ever feel sleepy, but then try to fall asleep and feel wound up? I start feeling very restless as soon as I lay down. I just toss around like crazy. It's not the mattress because it's new, and very comfy.

don't know if this is related to add or just a sleep problem, but I do feel a bit restless when I'm lying down--can't just relax in bed. I usually have lots of thoughts racing as well, and physically, I usually have to be shaking my leg/foot in order to release? enough energy to fall asleep.

Don't know if it's related, but I have a problem doing anything I'm actually supposed to be doing. So it stands to reason that if I'm supposed to be sleeping, my mind is working on the problems I was too sleepy at work to deal with. Sigh.

Yeah. I'll be absolutely exhausted, lay down and end up awake forever. I also have to move my feet to relax enough to fall asleep. I wake up several times a night though less now that I've been on Wellburtrin for a couple of weeks.

Yup, here I am 3 AM and trying to go to sleep since 1 AM. I gave up and decided to check the board. What's up with this? I gotta get up in 5 hours and go to work. Should be a zombie at some point....

If your luck is any thing like mine the zombie hour will come at the exact same one your work hour does.

I have alot of thoughts racing too, I just can't shut my mind up. I also have to move around and stuff because I still feel this sort of "inner energy" that seems to go away when im moving, it irritates me when im not and it feels uncomfertable.

I have had problems getting to sleep and staying asleep most of my adult life. At times I have gotten completely burned out by lack of sleep. Exercise seems to give some relief but I can't/won't do it as often as I should. Over the years, my Doctors have prescribed just about everything out there, including Quaaludes. Most medications worked to one degree or another, but the side effects were pretty tough. Many gave me a hang-over that ruined my next day. The Diazapines were obviously not a long term solution because of they are habituitive/addictive.

Several years ago my current Doctor prescribed Trazadone (50MG Tabs). This is an anti-depressant with the ability to put me into a deep sleep in about 5 minutes. For me, it has no noticeable side effects. I usually wake up fresh and well rested.

Trazadone seems to have the greatest affect for the first four (4) hours. I take one 50MG pill, but my Doctors has cleared me to take up to 150MG, if needed. For me, the higher dose does not lengthen the duration of effectiveness of the Trazadone, just its intensity of effect. If I wake up after takeing Trazadone and want to go back to sleep, I take a small piece of a Melatonin pill. This normally works well. Melatonin is the body's own sleep hormone and does not (for me) interact with the Trazadone. I also take an ongoing regimen of Wellbutrin. Your thoughts? Larry

I have had problems going to sleep my whole life. As a kid I used to make up stories in my head just to have something to do. It has always taken me 1-2 hours to fall asleep. Once put on stimulants, it got better, but still takes 30-45 minutes or so. I usually play Scrabble on my Palm Pilot until I start to doze. It works for me. A doctor a few years ago gave me Trazadone to help me sleep and it gave me the tripiest dreams. Have you noticed any weird dreams while taking Trazadone? Like really vivid colors?

I have Xanax but do not take it very often , if I have a lot of problems sleeping I begin with melatonin it is non-addictive and doesn't have the next day hang overs Xanax can have!

I just use the Xanax for muscle spams of the strangest kind!

Does anyone remember Seinfeld, the "jimmy leg" episode? I don't know if that's the official title, but I'm now taking Klonapin (Clonazapam) for Restless Leg Syndrome. My mind would race furiously, I couldn't get settled, I couldn't get comfortabel, whathaveyou.
The Klonapin has helped, but I find that taking my ADD and anti-depressant meds first thing in the morning seems to make a difference with my ability to fall asleep at night. Anything taken after 12:00 noon will keep me awake all night. I think it's important to take one's meds at about the same time every day.
Exercise also helps, but I'm not one to do anything after I get home from work in the evening.
Try not to have ANY sugar-containing substance (nor caffeine) after noon, and try not to take any vitamins later than that. Vitamin B (in all its variations) will increase energy, and read about herbs, if you're taking any, as to their intent of usefulness.
I've found that alcohol will keep me awake at night, not relax me; this includes Nyquil or any other over-the-counter medication that dries sinuses or other drug that 'keeps one awake and aware' during the day. Read labels!
I generally read for awhile before turning off the light, but the Klonapin helps with that. Chamomile tea is also supposed to help with sleep.
Read-up on natural sleep aids, and good luck and sweet dreams!

To mom21wildboy: Interesting comments about Trazadone. I have always had dreams in full technicolor and stereo sound and cannot associate the color with my use of Trazadone. I will remember this point in case there proves to be an association appearing in the future. Have you had any other unusual experiences taking Trazadone? Do you still take it?

Larry,

I do exactly the same thing., my brain won't stop...the body follows suit.
I guess I have always been that way , my mom said as a baby I would put my foot on the side of my crib and rock/bounce myself to sleep. I still do that esp if I am sick. Now, I try my sound machine along with the herbal stuff.
I won't do anymore rx for sleep though.
The melatonin is one option, if you are having issues waking up in the middle of sleep like I did on it, you can also try Valerian Root.
Stinks like the dickens, but it's a little better than the Melatonin in the fact taht with the melatonin I find if you don't put yourself in sleep mode, like lights off, etc...you can override it.
but the valerian root, no doing. Take it about an hour before bed.
I dind't feel groggy on it unless I got less than 5 hours on it.
It's all natural too, comes in several forms, capsules, teas etc.

I forgot to say that my mind is always going, too. Sometimes it's just the same thought over and over. Journaling sometimes helps. Exercising doesn't make me sleepy. I've been using sleeping pills here and there. Even after taking one, I often take an hour to fall asleep. One night it took me 2 hours! I think I'd like to try the valerian root. Thanks justhope.
